Mayawati saffron not care tribals and backwards

DZnAziPXUAABgwd
BJP-RSS govt does not care about the torture on the people of backward castes & tribals. They are more focused on making Babasaheb ‘Ramji’ instead of working for the people of his caste. They are only interested in vote bank politics & nothing else: BSP chief Mayawati.  BSP chief reminder gets more currency when  state polls early next year, and the sizeable Dalit population is likely to be crucial, play an important consolidation of vote, the poll strategy.
Thousands of Bahujan Samaj Party workers thronged Lucknow’s streets on Thursday, shouting slogans and demanding the arrest of an expelled senior BJP leader who called BSP chief and four-time chief minister Mayawati a “prostitute”.

Angry protesters – mostly Dalits –burnt effigies of former BJP state vice-president Daya Shanker Singh, who made the objectionable remarks.
As calls for his arrest mounted, police raided Singh’s house in Qaiserbagh but couldn’t find him with sources saying he had gone to Balia in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Senior BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui – who was leading the protests — said the demonstrations would continue until Singh was arrested.

Tiangong-1 China’s space lab on way to the Earth

China´s space agency said on Thursday that the nearly eight-tonne Tiangong-1 will re-enter the atmosphere some time between Saturday and Monday. Tiangong-1 China’s space lab on way to the Earth will it make any drastic impact the takers are few.

The European Space Agency has a smaller window between midday Saturday and early Sunday afternoon GMT time.
But there is “no need for people to worry”, the China Manned Space Engineering Office (CMSEO) said on its WeChat social media account.
Such falling spacecraft do “not crash into the Earth fiercely like in sci-fi movies, but turn into a splendid (meteor shower) and move across the beautiful starry sky as they race towards the Earth”, it said.
The lab was placed in orbit in September 2011 and had been slated for a controlled re-entry, but it ceased functioning in March 2016 and space enthusiasts have been bracing for its fiery return.
Beijing sees its multi-billion-dollar space programme as a symbol of the country´s rise. It plans to send a manned mission to the moon in the future.
China sent another lab into orbit, the Tiangong-2, in September 2016 and hopes to turn it into a crewed space station by 2022.

Russia expelled 59 diplomats from 23 countries on Friday

With Russian on expulsion spree UK news the Aeroflot flight was  alleged searched at Heathrow airport. Relations between  EU and Russia is very important, Euroasia is an important region for global development, thus peace is of paramount for the globe to sustain with sustainable growth the diplomatic and statesman aberrations could give rise present bitterness and future wars in which the next nuke wars can be devastating, our actions need be persuasive and not hatred immersed.
Russia has accused the British authorities of “another blatant provocation” after an Aeroflot flight was allegedly searched by Border Force officers at Heathrow.
Russia has accused the British authorities of “another blatant provocation” after an Aeroflot flight was allegedly searched by Border Force officers at Heathrow
Russia expelled 59 diplomats from 23 countries on Friday and said it reserved the right to take action against four other nations in a worsening standoff with the West over the poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter in Britain.
Russia said it was responding to what it called the baseless demands for scores of its own diplomats to leave a slew of mostly Western countries that have joined London and Washington in censuring Moscow over the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.
A day earlier, Moscow ordered the expulsion of 60 U.S. diplomats and the closing of the US consulate in St Petersburg, Russia’s second city, in retaliation for the biggest ejection of diplomats since the Cold War.
Preparations appeared to be underway on Friday to close the St Petersburg mission down, with a removals truck making repeated journeys to and from the consulate which took delivery of a large pizza order for its staff.
Russia summoned senior envoys on Friday from most of the other countries that have expelled Russian diplomats and told them it was expelling a commensurate number of theirs.
Russia has already retaliated in kind against Britain for ejecting 23 diplomats over the first known use of a military-grade nerve agent on European soil since World War Two. British ambassador Laurie Bristow has summoned again on Friday.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said Bristow had been told London had just one month to cut its diplomatic contingent in Russia to the same size as the Russian mission in Britain.
A spokeswoman for the British Foreign Office did not say how many British diplomats would be affected, but said Russia’s response was regrettable and Moscow was in flagrant breach of international law over the killing of the former spy.
The poisoning, in southern England, has united much of the West in taking action against what it regards as the hostile policies of President Vladimir Putin. This includes the United States under President Donald Trump, who Putin had hoped would improve ties.
Russia rejects Britain’s accusation it stood behind the attack and has cast the allegations as part of an elaborate Western plot to sabotage East-West relations and isolate Moscow.
The hospital where she is being treated said on Thursday that Yulia Skripal was getting better after spending three weeks in a critical condition due to the nerve toxin attack. Her father remains in a critical but stable condition.
The BBC, citing sources, reported on Friday that Yulia was “conscious and talking”.
During the course of Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned senior embassy officials from Australia, Albania, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Croatia, Ukraine, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Canada and the Czech Republic.
All were seen arriving in their official cars at the Foreign Ministry’s gothic building in Moscow.
“They (the diplomats) were handed protest notes and told that in response to the unwarranted demands of the relevant states on expelling Russian diplomats … that the Russian side declares the corresponding number of staff working in those countries’ embassies in the Russian Federation persona non grata,” the ministry said in a statement.
Four other countries — Belgium, Hungary, Georgia and Montenegro — had only “at the last moment” announced that they too were expelling Russian diplomats over the Skripal affair, and Moscow reserved the right to take retaliatory action against them too, it said.
Emerging from the Foreign Ministry building, German ambassador Rudiger von Fritsch said Russia had questions to answer about the poisoning of Skripal, but Berlin remained open to dialogue with Moscow.
The US State Department said after Russia announced the expulsions on Thursday evening that it reserved the right to respond further, saying the list of diplomats designated for expulsion by Russia showed Moscow was not interested in diplomacy.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in a conference call with reporters on Friday, disagreed with that assessment, saying that Putin still favored mending ties with other countries, including with the United States.

‘Hyperloop’ 109 Yrs Old WILD Dream – TV Channels Mislead

‘Hyperloop’ 109 Yrs Old WILD Dream – TV Channels Mislead
March30, 2018 (C) Ravinder Singh progressindia2015@gmail.com
When I started inventing in 1975 – my IDEA was to make Better Designed Products That Are Efficient and WORK. Soon also developed IDEAS that required $Billions of R&D. Example – Improved Automotive Engines or Telecom Technologies or Sound Recording – ‘Hyperloop’ even at present Prototype Stage required 30 Major Collaborators.

95% of the IDEAS are relevant to India even today – worth $Trillions. But GoI has no Program to Support Innovations & Protect Inventions and Engage Indian Inventors while Gadkari determines technologies India needs.
Madness of Governance is such that India Supports Totally Unviable & Undesirable Project which are inTEST-TUBE Stage of Development.
Hyperloop is to cost [$20m-$50m/km] more than Bullet Train per kilometer Rs.150 Cr to Rs.350 Cr but is not Mass Transport – Bullet Trainset carry 1600 Passengers at 4 minute interval – a Hyperloop Pod may be 10-20 people.
Some of the Channels was FOOLING people of our people – 90 years behind USA in wealth [Global Wealth Report 2017] that in 3 years Hyperloop Public Transport services would run 1.5 times faster than speed of sound and would take passengers from Delhi to Mumbai in just 90m.
MIT’s final report released recently reported Prototype Test Results.
Pod tested in one mile long Test Track was only 2.4m long and weighed 258 kg and run at 400 kmph peak speed.

India Pak agree on Code of Conduct on HR diplomatic mission

India and Pakistan on Friday announced they have agreed to mutually resolve all issues about the treatment of diplomats.
The agreement follows claims and counter-claims by the two countries about harassment of each other’s diplomats.
‘India and Pakistan have mutually agreed to resolve matters related to the treatment of diplomats and diplomatic premises, in line with the 1992 ‘Code of Conduct’ for treatment of Diplomatic/ Consular personnel in India and Pakistan,’ the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
Pak foreign office staement
The Code provides for ‘smooth and unhindered functioning’ of the diplomatic and consular officials of the two countries in conformity with the international laws without violating their privileges and immunities.
The Code also says that the two countries should not resort to intrusive and aggressive surveillance and actions such as verbal and physical harassment, disconnection of phone lines, etc.
Earlier this month, India had asked Pakistan to ensure safety and security of its officials working at the Indian mission in Islamabad, saying they continue to face ‘harassment’ and ‘intimidation’.
In its 16th ‘Note Verbale’ to the Pakistan Foreign Ministry on March 22, the Indian High Commission specifically mentioned three incidents of harassment of senior officials.
Pakistan had claimed that there had been as many as 26 instances of harassment and intimidation of its diplomats since March 7, following which Islamabad called back its high commissioner Sohail Mahmood for discussions on the issue.
He, however, returned to New Delhi on March 22.
After Friday’s announcement, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Faisal in a brief statement said that the matter will be addressed under the mechanism of 1992 related to the treatment of diplomats.
It was not immediately known where and how the agreement was reached to sort out the current tension over diplomats.
Faisal had said yesterday at a press briefing that the two sides would address the issue of harassment of diplomats through talks.

 *JOIN DHARNA UPWAS*

*31st March, 2018, Saturday, outside Muzaffarnagar Court* .

In a shocking development, the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is in process of withdrawing cases from the workers/leaders of BJP who are accused of Muzzaffar Nagar riots that occurred in 2013. This state led impunity will create a sense of fear among the common masses as well as will also add to the vulnerability of the minority communities which are always at the receiving end of actions of hatred. This decision not only reflects the biased politics of Yogi Government but also state hooliganism. This is an illegal act and clear disregard of the Constitution. Recently Chief Minister Yogi in a statement during in the state legislature found to be favouring ‘Ram Rajya’ over ‘Socialism’. The decision about the withdrawal of cases has a lot of inspiration from this ideology of the BJP government in UP. National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) strongly condemn this act of the UP government.

Program: One day fast and sit-in followed by a press conference.

Timing: 10.00am-2.00am.

GAIL US LNG ARRIVES AT DABHOL

GAIL’s first Chartered LNG Vessel carrying long term US LNG arrives at Dabhol

Konkan LNG Pvt. Ltd. receives first US LNG Cargo at Dabhol

Dabhol (Maharashtra), 30th March, 2018. India’sfirst LNG Cargo from USA under long term contract of GAIL (India) Limited was received at Dabhol, today. This marks a new beginning in the Indo-USA energy partnership and trade. Commencement of LNG supplies under the Henry Hub indexed contracts is significant for GAIL and the Indian markets as well.  GAIL’s first charter hired vessel – MV Meridian Spirit, arrived after 25 days voyage and docked for unloading in the august presence of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. Mr Patrick Santillo, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, US Embassy and Shri B C Tripathi, CMD, GAIL were also present on this momentous occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said that the government was working towards making India a gas based economy. He added that the arrival of the first LNG cargo from US was a significant milestone in the direction of realising adequate availability of natural gas through imports from diversified sources. He further stated that a shift towards a gas based economy would require augmenting domestic production as well as imports. He added that adequate investments in natural gas infrastructure including pipeline, LNG import terminal and City Gas Distribution network was also a focus area for the Government.
The USA has abundant supply of shale gas and the long term LNG contracts signed by Indian companies with US provide India with an access to secure supply source at stable prices which will result in geographical diversification and energy security.
GAIL will have an optimum portfolio mix of LNG indexed to Henry Hub (HH) and crude oil and the customers will benefit from such a unique price blend. GAIL is one of the early movers to contract US LNG and has 5.8 MMTPA of US LNG in its portfolio. GAIL shall be receiving around 90 cargoes per annum from Sabine Pass and Cove Point LNG terminals.
The arrival of this LNG vessel comes close on the heels of formation of Konkan LNG Private Limited, a subsidiary of GAIL, which has recently been demerged from RGPPL.
Total bilateral trade (goods and services) between India and US increased at a CAGR of 11.4% from $20 billion in the year 2000 to over $126.1 billion in the year 2017.  India’s trade with USA is expected to increase owing to large scale imports of LNG and crude oil in coming years. GAIL alone would be procuring approx. $ 2 billion worth of LNG per annum from USA from FY 2018-19.

Recent pharma innovations

1. Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has developed a scaffold made of silk composite functionalised with copper-doped bioactive glass to facilitate faster bone regeneration.
The scaffold seeded with stem cells was found to differentiate into bone cells, facilitate growth of blood vessels and successfully integrate the newly formed bone cells with the native bone.
The research team developed the silk composite by adding chopped silk fibre to liquid silk. Unlike pure silk, the silk composite has greater strength. The addition of bioglass further enhanced the strength of the composite.
The team plans to undertake trials on larger animals now, and is hopeful to get regulatory clearance soon.
2. AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company, announced that the European Commission has granted marketing authorisation for Lokelma (formerly ZS-9, sodium zirconium cyclosilicate) for the treatment of adults with hyperkalaemia.
Hyperkalaemia is a serious condition characterised by elevated potassium levels in the blood associated with cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases.
3.Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used to suppress acid production in the stomach and are among the most widely sold drugs in the world, but a new study reveals that long-term use of the medicine can increase stomach cancer risks by almost 250 percent.  Helicobacter pylori, carried by more than half of the world’s population – most often harmlessly, but in a small percentage of people, the bug has been tied to the development of stomach cancer.
Previous research found that people with an ongoing Helicobacter pylori infection taking a PPI stood a greater chance of developing a precursor to stomach cancer, called atrophic gastritis.
4.Microsoft is partnering with Seattle biotech company Adaptive Bio-technologies on a year-long project to build a universal blood test that can screen for dozens or even hundreds of diseases at a time, all by decoding the information in the immune system.
Microsoft is investing an undisclosed sum in Adaptive and is offering the company cloud computing and machine learning services. The combined value of those two is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. If the project is a success, it would be a radical change to how we diagnose diseases from cancer to multiple sclerosis and would mark a new era for health technology. Revolution in diagnostic aspects specially  on diseases that are often diagnosed in very late stages, like pancreatic and ovarian cancer; autoimmune diseases that are typically hard to diagnose, like multiple sclerosis; and infectious diseases that can remain in a person’s system and reoccur, like chronic Lyme disease.
5.AstraZeneca is working in collaboration with the molecular diagnostics firm Myriad Genetics’ for its test myChoice HRD Plus to identify advanced ovarian cancer patients who might benefit from maintenance treatment using Lynparza (olaparib) and Avastin (bevacizumab).
The new deal is part of an ongoing collaboration formed by the firm with AstraZeneca in 2007 for the development of a companion diagnostic test to detect individuals for treatment with olaparib.
myChoice HRD Plus is a comprehensive homologous recombination deficiency test for the detection of loss of a tumour’s ability to repair breaks in double-stranded DNA. The test includes loss of heterozygosity, telomeric allelic imbalance and large-scale state transition technologies, along with 90 additional genes and molecular markers.
6. GHIT Fund is an international public-private partnership spearheaded by the Government of Japan, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust and a group of pharmaceutical companies. GHIT Fund has awarded the University of Florida and partners in the United States and Japan $3.2 million to advance a promising vaccine to prevent transmission of malaria. New grant from the Global Health Innovative Technology Fund will further development of processes to move the vaccine from the experimental stage to human trials and, ultimately, a clinical treatment.
Rhoel Dinglasan, an associate professor of infectious diseases in UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine and the university’s Emerging Pathogens Institute, has spent years developing a malaria transmission blocking vaccine, or TBV.

Aung San Suu Kyi calls for unity

Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has called on the people to be united for national development.
The State Counsellor made a televised address to mark the second anniversary of the launch of a democratically-elected government.
She, however, did not elaborate on how her government will deal with the issue of minority Rohingya refugees.
Ms Suu Kyi also said, the world’s focus is on the Rakhine state right now, but people also need to peacefully develop the country.

Carlos Alvarado next President

Carlos Alvarado Quesada after casting his ballot in a presidential runoff in San José, Costa Rica, on Sunday. A former labor minister, he won nearly 61 percent of the vote.
Carlos Alvarado, the candidate from the ruling Citizen Action Party (PAC), won Costa Rica’s presidential runoff with 60.74 percent of the vote, according to the latest results released by the country’s electoral tribunal on Sunday evening.
With 95.58 percent ballots counted, Carlos Alvarado gained 60.74 percent of the vote, and his rival, Fabricio Alvarado, an evangelical candidate from the National Restoration Party (PRN), obtained 39.26 percent of the vote, according to the results.
The two Alvaradoes are not related.
In a speech to supporters, Fabricio Alvarado conceded defeat but said that this is not a defeat for his movement, since he went from practically having no options in the race to leading in the first round of the presidential election in February, and to contesting the presidency of the country.
He also promised to make his movement available to help correct the most pressing problems in Costa Rica.
The election exposed divisions in the Central American country, particularly concerning same-sex marriage, which had been heatedly debated during the campaign in this traditionally conservative nation.
Fabricio Alvarado has campaigned on the pledge to rescue “principles and values” by opposing gay marriage.
Carlos Alvarado, a former minister, came out in favor of gay marriage and has slammed Fabricio Alvarado for campaigning on a single issue and having no plan for government.

Defunct Chinese space lab hit S Pacific

Tiangong-1 re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere on Monday, China bade farewell to the experimental space lab and pathfinder for its space station.
The space lab entered the atmosphere over the South Pacific at around 8:15 a.m. on Monday, and was mostly burnt up in the atmosphere, the China Manned Space Engineering Office (CMSEO) said.
A defunct Chinese space lab hurtled through Earth’s atmosphere today, breaking up into pieces as it headed towards a watery grave in the South Pacific. Moments after predicting a slightly later re-entry over the Atlantic, China’s Manned Space Engineering Office said, the eight-tonne Tiangong-1 mostly burnt up above the vast ocean’s central region.
Tiangong-1 was launched in 2011 to carry out docking and orbit experiments. It was part of the country’s efforts to build a manned space station by 2022 but stopped working in March 2016.
Launched from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Sept. 29, 2011, Tiangong-1 tested docking technology to prepare the way for the coming space station. It docked with Shenzhou-8, Shenzhou-9, and Shenzhou-10 spacecraft. Six astronauts, four men and two women, spent time in the lab.
In June 2013, Wang Yaping gave her famous physics lesson to students on Earth from the lab, inspiring nationwide enthusiasm for science and space exploration.
Tiangong-1 was in service for four and a half years, two and a half years longer than its designed life, making important preparations for a permanent space station to be put into orbit around 2022.
Huang Weifen, deputy chief designer at the Astronaut Center of China, said, “Tiangong-1 will go down in China’s space history. It helped us accumulate precious knowledge for work on the space station.”
“Although Tiangong-1 was only a transitional platform between the spaceship and space station, it was key to our development of docking technology, and demonstrated the possibility of long stays in space for Chinese astronauts. The fervor aroused among Chinese is invaluable,” said Bai Ruixue, a former space journalist and now CEO of a commercial space education project.
“When I was reporting on the docking between Shenzhou-8 and Tiangong-1 from the Beijing Aerospace Control Center in November 2011, many people had tears in their eyes when they saw the two spacecraft, like two specs of dust floating in the vast universe, connect with each other. It’s a kind of romance created by science and technology,” Bai recalled.
“Tiangong-1 has carried the space dreams of millions of Chinese. Although only a test base for future projects, it has had far-reaching effects,” said Mao Xinyuan, a space science columnist.

China new tariffs on US imports

On  worldwide objections, the U.S. administration decided to impose a 25-percent tariff on steel imports and a 10-percent tariff on aluminum, with tariffs on imports from countries including China.
In retaliatory acts, China  said, it is rolling out new tariffs on US meat, fruit and other products as retaliation against taxes approved by US President Donald Trump on imported steel and aluminum.
The Chinese Finance Ministry said in a statement that the new tariffs come into effect from today. The announcement follows warnings Chinese officials have made for several weeks in an escalating trade dispute with the United States.
China  imposed tariff   on 128 products.
China suspended tariff concessions on 128 items of U.S. products including pork and fruits starting Monday, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council has decided to impose a tariff of 15 percent on 120 items of products imported from the United States including fruits and related products, and a tariff of 25 percent on eight items of imports including pork and related products from the country, according to a statement posted on the ministry website.
The statement said it was a countermeasure in response to a previous U.S. move to slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit western Iran

 5.3-magnitude earthquake strikes western Iran

At least 38 people received minor injuries after a 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit Kermanshah province in western Iran, a spokesman for the country’s medical emergency services said. The quake struck 9km from the town of Sarpol-e Zahab at a depth of 10km, the US Geological Survey said. The region was hit by deadly 7.3-magnitude quake in November 2017, which killed over 400 people and injured thousands more.

GLOBAL ECONOMIC MONITOR (MARCH, 2018)

DSC00753.JPG
The global growth continued to strengthen and rose in the second half of 2017, driven by strong investment and trade developments across the nations. The growth momentum is broad-based with strengthened activities in most of the countries over the last year including stronger-than-expected outcomes in the euro region, Japan and United States, continued fast expansion in China and improving conditions for commodity exporters.

International Monetary Fund’s in its report “Global Prospects and Policy Challenges” notes that financial conditions remain supportive despite the recent equity market turmoil in the world. A strong rebound in investment and international trade is supporting the global expansion led by advanced economies. The picture in emerging economies is more mixed, with higher commodity prices sustaining the recovery in commodity exporting countries. Also, Euro area growth has been the highest in a decade and strong global trade boosted activity in Asia, with China benefitting from continuing fiscal and credit stimulus.
While headline inflation is being pushed up by oil prices, it remains below target in many G-20 countries. In the United States, which is now close to full employment, signs of rising inflation and wage pressures are being watched closely by policymakers and financial markets alike.
In line with the strengthening cycle, policy rates among advanced economies are beginning to normalize, with a sequence of cautious interest rate hikes in the United States and in other countries. The Fed is also gradually reducing the size of its balance sheet and the European Central Bank has started to taper its large-scale asset purchases. Long-term market interest rates increased notably—driven by concerns about inflation—and there was a spike in equity market volatility, but broad financial conditions are still supportive by historical standards.
Going ahead, growth is set to slow, however, as the global cycle matures further one important factor will be the gradual tightening of financial conditions under the baseline. As inflation is expected to rise due to reduction in residual slack of higher growth including lowering unemployment where it is still elevated and reducing involuntary part-time work—monetary policy will gradually normalize, leading long-term interest rates higher. At the same time, there will be an end of some of the temporary fiscal support behind current growth.

China 200 million religious believers

The major religions practiced in China are Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism, and Protestantism, said the white paper, titled “China’s Policies and Practices on Protecting Freedom of Religious Belief.”
It noted that China has numerous Buddhist and Taoist believers, but it is difficult to accurately estimate their numbers as there are no set registration procedures which ordinary believers must follow as part of their religion.

Mexico presidential election campaign

Mexico campaign for its presidential election  begins, with three major-party candidates facing off for the July 1st ballot.
The front-runner is former Mexico City mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador who is backed by a new party National Regeneration Movement. He is followed by former Finance Minister Jose Antonio Meade of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party and opposition leader Ricardo Anaya.
On Sunday, Lopez Obrador spoke to about 1,500 supporters in the northern city of Ciudad Juarez near the US border. He called for a change in the situation surrounding young people to improve the country’s worsening security. Government issues clarification with respect to the E-way Bill System

The e-way Bill System for Inter-State movement of goods across the country has been introduced from 01st April 2018. Few clarifications given by the Government regarding the new e-way bill system are as follows:
1. Situation: -Consider a situation where a consignor is required to move goods from City X to City Z. He appoints Transporter A for movement of his goods. Transporter A moves the goods from City X to City Y. For completing the movement of goods i.e. from City Y to City Z, Transporter A now hands over the goods to Transporter B. Thereafter, the goods are moved to the destination i.e. from City Y to City Z by Transporter B. How would the e-way bill be generated in such situations?
Clarification : -It is clarified that in such a scenario, only one e-way bill would be required. PART A of FORMGST EWB-01 can be filled by the consignor and then the e-way bill will be assigned by the consignor to Transporter A. Transporter A will fill the vehicle details, etc. in PART B of FORMGST EWB-01and will move the goods from City X to City Y.
On reaching City Y, Transporter A will assign the said e-way bill to the Transporter B. Thereafter, Transporter B will be able to update the details of PART B of FORMGST EWB-01. Transporter B will fill the details of his vehicle and move the goods from City Y to City Z.
2. Situation : – Consider a situation where a Consignor hands over his goods for transportation on Friday to transporter. But, the assigned transporter starts the movement of goods on Monday. How would the validity of e-way bill be calculated in such situations?
Clarification: -It is clarified that the validity period of e-way bill starts only after the details in PART B of FORMGST EWB-01 are updated by the transporter for the first time.
In the given situation, Consignor can fill the details in PART A of FORMGST EWB-01 on Friday and handover his goods to the transporter. When the transporter is ready to move the goods, he can fill the PART B of FORMGST EWB-01 i.e. the assigned transporter can fill the details in PART B of FORMGST EWB-01 on Monday i.e. 2nd April 2018 and the validity period of the e-way bill will start from Monday.

Sisi wins 2nd term

Egyptian incumbent President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi made a landslide victory in the country’s presidential election, winning 97.08 percent of the valid votes, official results showed on Monday.
The turnout was 41.05 percent, as 24,254,152 voters inside and outside Egypt cast their ballots, head of Egypt’s National Elections Authority, Lashin Ibrahim, told a press conference in Cairo.
A total of 21,835,387 voted for Sisi at home and abroad, while Sisi’s only rival Moussa Mostafa Moussa garnered 656,534 votes, or 2.92 percent.
A couple of possible strong competitors in the presidential race have either withdrawn or been disqualified over violations.
Moussa said he is satisfied with the results, applauding the transparency of the electoral process.

Trump criticizes Amazon

US President Donald Trump has again attacked the online retailer Amazon over its delivery pricing.
Trump accused Amazon of forcing the US Postal Service to accept low fees in order to deliver its packages to customers’ doorsteps.
Trump tweeted on Monday that “only fools” are saying the “Post Office makes money with Amazon.” He said the US Postal Service loses “a fortune” and that “this will be changed.”
Neither Amazon nor the Postal Service has responded to his comments.
US media say Amazon does not receive any special treatment and has the usual large company discount. They add that the Postal Service would be under even more pressure without Amazon’s business.
Trump has regularly disparaged Amazon and its CEO Jeff Bezos. Bezos bought The Washington Post newspaper in 2013 and the publication has been openly critical of the president.

Sok Siphana, an advisor to the Cambodian government. He Speaking to Xinhua ahead of the annual Boao Forum recently, which is scheduled for April 8-11 in south China’s Hainan Province, Siphana said 2018 started with a lot of mixed global and regional developments, like the prospects of trade war, geo-political rivalries, protectionism, and anti-globalization tendencies on the one hand, and on the other hand, the globe has disruptive technologies which were shaping the growth prospects of the world.
“As usual, the Boao Forum is quite bold in tackling sensitive issues of regional and global importance, from Fintech, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data, to broad topics of connectivity, like infrastructure, the Belt and Road, trade and monetary policies of major powers (China, the United States, Japan and India),” he said.
He added that the forum had its likely impacts on the world economic growth and global governance issues to respond to profound changes in a global economic landscape, i.e. from International Monetary Fund reform to Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and from G7 to G20.

CAIT SOUGHT PM INTERVENTION ON SEALING ISSUE

TRADERS MAY HANDOVER KEYS OF SHOPS TO GOVT-MAY SHIFT TO OTHER CITIES
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today sought the direct intervention of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in resolving sealing issue. In a communication sent today to Prime Minister, the CAIT highlighted the issue of not obeying due process of law by the Authorities, arbitrariness of the Monitoring Committee and cruel behaviour with the traders worst than a criminal among other issues and demanded the Prime Minister to bring an Ordinance to stop sealing for at least one year.
The CAIT with deep regrets today said that if no action is taken then traders will left with no other alternative but to handover the keys of their shops to the Government or may shift to neighbouring cities or close down their businesses. This is the only way to protect us from great insult, victimisation, harassment and mental agony. It is irony that in the Capital of World’s largest democracy, the fundamental rights of traders are being brutally crushed and no. one is listening to the woes.
In its communication to Prime Minister, CAIT Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal said that sealing is being done in highly aggressive & unreasonable manner causing great hardships, sufferings, trauma and economic loss to vast section of traders who are serving people of Delhi since a long time. The basic provisions of The Delhi Municipal Corporation Act,1957 are being blatantly flouted while conducting sealing. No opportunity of defence is given to traders. Even in case of dreaded criminal, due opportunity is given but traders have been treated worst than criminals.
The traders are blamed for misusing the building by undertaking commercial activities. No one says  that since Independence, the Government Agencies were completely failed in providing sufficient commercial space in Delhi in proportion to growing population in the city. It is to be noted that even the Government has admitted such failure through an Affidavit filed by Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, Govt of India in Supreme Court in 2008 saying that Government could develop only 16% of the commercial space in Delhi in four decades. The rest of the required commercial space was made available by the traders with their own resources. If this would not happen, there could have been much hue & cry and prices could have escalated much high.
The Monitoring Committee is acting in a most dictatorial way and has become an Administrative Authority on its own but unconstitutional and the officials of MCD and other Agencies do not muster enough courage to inform the Committee about their boundation as per explicit provisions of MCD Act and thereby conducting sealing and other activities by sidelining their own governing Act, the MCD Act,1957.
While urging the Prime Minister to bring an Ordinance to stop sealing, the CAIT also said that officials should be advised to follow due process of law strictly and a high level committee may be constituted under Chairmanship of Delhi LG consisting of senior officials of Central & State Government and representatives of trade to thrash out each issue pertaining to sealing.

|New Delhi| April 3rd 2018 marks one entire year since Pehlu Khan’s death, a dairy farmer from Nooh district of Haryana who was attacked by a group of 200 cow vigilantes affiliated with right-wing Hindutva groups in Alwar, Rajasthan. It is shameful to see that the Rajasthan govt. has still not made the case a priority – to deliver justice to the victims or address the increasing cases of cow vigilantism. There is a growing threat to the power of democratically elected state-government and courts from quasi militant groups such as the gau-rakshaks, who have undermined the Right to Life of individuals and communities, especially in the rural agrarian belt.
Various militant and political outfits such as RSS and VHP have regularly attacked cattle traders under the guise of “gauraksha” (cow protection). Pehlu Khan’s family is still struggling to come to terms with their loss and live a normal life. The delay in this case clearly shows not a lack of evidence, but a lack of will to bring the killers to justice. The role of the local police officials in the subduing and diluting of the cases, including threatening families and friends of the victims of filing false cases, destroying evidence and adopting a strategy of false encounters must also be looked into.
Com. Hannan Mollah stated that since Pehlu Khan’s lynching, over 300 more cases have been reported, the victims were dairy farmers, dalit and Muslim cattle traders, and none of them have received justice even now. It is time for the nation to agitate against such politically motivated murders; as a democracy, India cannot standby as innocent farmers, traders and other social minorities are murdered in broad daylight.
Bhumi Adhikar Andolan continues its demand for justice for these victims, for immediate relief to be provided to the families of the victims of these attacks and strives to provide support to the families of the victims. It also condemns the protection given to these gau-rakshaks who have run havoc across the country, and are visibly operating with the patronage of local and state administration and political groups who have vested interests.Com NK Shukla stated that these repeated attacks on cattle traders and dairy farmers are part of a bigger design to undermine the dairy sector of the country. He further added that these attacks are creating havoc on the lives of the farmers who are already distressed because they are not getting a fair MSP, they are burdened by debts and being pushed to commit suicides.
Maulana Hanif also said that the repeated attacks on the Muslim community in Mewat is a result of a larger political propaganda, he stated that the need of the hour is for all the communities in Mewat to unite and stand as a strong front against such communal forces.
At the protest organized on 3rdApril, 2018 at Parliament Street in Delhi, leaders of the Bhumi Adhikar Andolan called for nation-wide struggle against increasing cases of violence meted by right-wing groups in the name of cow-protection and of vendetta against all progressive movements and of continued attacks on dalits and minorities.
It is mentionable that Bhumi Adhikar Andolan had also organised a two day National Convention and Photo Feature on the same issues in March, it was attended by farmers, political leaders, social activists and academicians from all over the country.
Bhumi Adhikar Andolan also announced its support to the call for a countrywide protest called by Jan Ekta, Jan Adhikar Andolan on the completion of 4 years of the Modi Government with the slogan “Pol Khol, Halla Bol!”
The protest was addressed by: N. K Shukla (Joint. Sec AIKS), Phul Singh (State Sec. Haryana AIKS), Com. Hannan Mollah (Gen. Secy. AIKS), Jiten Chaudhary (MP, Lok Sabha, CPIM), KK Ragesh (MP, RS. Kerala, CPIM), Pehlu Khan’s Family, Com. Bharat Singh (State Secy. Uttar Pradesh, AIKS), Maulana Hanif, Shifat Manager (Alwar), Com. Ramesh  (AIKMS).

New Stem Cell That Could Heal Brain Damage

A newly discovered type of stem cell could help brains repair themselves from injury or even debilitating diseases like Alzheimer’s, according to the latest research.
Called the “G2 quiescent stem cell”, it’s one of several ‘sleeping’ (or quiescent) stem cells in the brain.Like other stem cells, it can produce cells of all different types on demand – whatever the body needs.
If we can work out ways to enable and harness these stem cells, they could eventually be used in place of invasive surgical procedures, according to the two researchers from the University of Cambridge in the UK.
“The brain is not good at repairing itself, but these newly-discovered stem cells suggest there may be a way to improve its ability,” says one of the researchers, molecular biologist Andrea Brand.
“These stem cells are in a dormant state, but once awake, they have the ability to generate key brain cells.”

Lessons from Two Decades of Advocacy’

‘Campaigning for Air Quality: Lessons from Two Decades of Advocacy’
ANUMITA ROYCHOWDHURY, NAVROZ K DUBASH
THURSDAY, 12 APRIL 2018 ADD TO CALENDAR
4:00 PM TO 5:30 PM
Conference Hall, Centre for Policy Research
Public debate over the quality of Delhi’s air reliably spikes every winter, along with the readings from air quality monitors. However, public discussion tends to rapidly taper off, even as the air quality remains consistently bad.
The Initiative on Climate, Energy and Environment (ICEE) at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) is organising a seminar series – Clearing the Air? Seminar Series on Delhi’s Air Pollution – to promote sustained and informed public understanding around the data, impacts, sources and policy challenges involved in clearing Delhi’s air. While we will focus on the Delhi context, the series will also reflect the fact that the problem extends far beyond Delhi. The seminar series will present the work of experts in a range of areas, to help promote informed public discussion about what changes are needed, what is possible, and how to get it done. Clearing the air in terms of knowledge and public information, we hope, will make a small contribution toward actually clearing Delhi’s air.

‘Learning in a Global Context’

The Centre for Policy Research and The World Bank Group invites you to a half-day seminar on Learning in the Global Context. The seminar will focus on the key findings of The World Development Report 2018Learning to Realize Education’s Promise, followed by a discussion on India’s learning agenda.
Education powerfully advances twin strategic goals: ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity. Given that today’s students will be tomorrow’s citizens, leaders, workers, and parents, a good education is an investment with enduring benefits.
But providing education is not enough. What is important, and what generates a real return on investment, is learning and acquiring skills. Without learning, students will be locked into lives of poverty and exclusion, and the children whom societies fail the most are those most in need of a good education to succeed in life. Learning conditions and outcomes are almost always much worse for the disadvantaged.
To realize education’s promise, learning needs to be prioritized, not just schooling. To make learning central to the discourse in education, three complimentary strategies are needed:
1. Assess learning to make it a serious goal
2. Act on evidence to make schools work for learning
3. Align all actors to make the system work for learning
The agenda can be accessed here.

Non – Profit Organisations Impacted

Non-Profit Organisation- Impact

Many of the Small and medium sized Non Profit Organisations could not conduct impact studies partly because of the budget constraints and partly due to the consultancy available without hands-on sessions and mostly theoretical. We are indicating below a link “charting impact” which contains materials for complete charting impact report.

The guidelines are very clear and simple and we have to collect information only for the following five questions.
1.      What is your organisation aiming to accomplish?
2.      What are your strategies for making this happen?
3.      What are your organisations capabilities for doing this?
4.      How will your organisation know if you are making progress?
5.      What have and haven’t you accomplished so far?
In fact we have tried with organisations and the results for the fourth and fifth question was revealing and eye opener for the respective management.  We suggest it may be translated in your own language and information may be collected from stake holders and analysed and further necessary action may be taken.
We are also indicating below another link for identifying and strengthening general leadership competencies from three different angles.
This also concentrates on core values and beliefs which will move towards strengthening the frame work.

Thanking You

Yours Sincerely

Facebook Take Notice

Avaaz.org – The World in Action
Sign the open letter.
Dear friends,
It’s official: Facebook and social media are out of control. A quarter of a BILLION Facebook accounts are fake! 87 million of us had our data stolen to help Trump win. Russian disinformation operations generated BILLIONS of shares. On Wednesday CEO Zuckerberg will make history testifying before the US Congress. This is our moment to force government and big internet to commit to fix this mess. Sign the open letter below with one click and Avaaz will deliver it in a massive action outside Congress:
ADD MY NAME

To Mark Zuckerberg, Internet CEOs and Government Regulators:
Enough is enough. We call on you to protect our democracies and immediately:
  • Tell the Truth about fake users and disinformation campaigns, including through independent audits.
  • Ban the Bots – ban ALL fake or imposter user accounts.
  • Alert the Public – notify all users EACH time they are exposed to fake or malicious content, and correct the record.
  • Fund the Fact-Checkers – an independent army big enough and fast enough to stem the spread of lies.
Crucial elections are just months away. Facebook’s motto used to be Move Fast and Break Things. Now you need to Move Fast and Fix Things.
Sincerely,
ADD MY NAME
It’s not an exaggeration. Everything we love is under threat – from human rights to democracy to the environment.
This problem is worldwide, with the UN even blaming Facebook for genocide of the Rohingya! But Russia has weaponised it, launching what NATO calls the biggest information war in history. They’ve set up millions of fake users, pages, sites, organisations posing as everything from neo-Nazis to leftist muslim-rights organisations to psychic fortune tellers — all designed to promote the far right, infiltrate the left, and undermine democracy. They’ve generated billions of shares, reaching virtually all of us.
Facebook says they’re acting fast, but they’ve dragged their feet for months, and they won’t be transparent. Their answer is “trust us”. We can’t afford that anymore, so this Wednesday let’s make sure we get the ball rolling with US legislators and Zuckerberg publicly committing to our call to action — add your name with one click
ADD MY NAME
In many ways, the Russian and far-right disinformation campaigns are the mirror image of our movement. In response to our real movement building global unity, they launch fake movements, pushing lies and deception to divide us. As a result, they’ve seen us as a powerful opponent and constantly targeted Avaaz! This is a battle for the soul of the internet, for democracy itself, for our future. Let’s win it.
With hope and determination,
Ricken, Christoph, Nell, Mia, Alaphia, Diego, Fadi, Marie, Jenny, Meetali, Andrew, Nick, Fatima, Danny and the whole Avaaz team.

Dr (Prof.) Anil Arora and his team set a new world record of Largest gathering of joint replacement patients”, in the presence of Guinness World Records team at Delhi, on 8th April 2018. With this setting, Prof Arora's Knee and Hip Surgery Clinic  finds a place inGuinness World Records.
Dr (Prof.) Anil Arora is Senior Director and Chief Surgeon at Knee and Hip Surgery Clinic & Global Ortho, Senior Director & Unit Head in Department of Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement at Max Super Speciality Hospital and Institute of Joint Replacement, Patparganj, Delhi,  Chairman of Global Knee and Hip Foundation, India. The World Record Setting Event was followed by CARE Program for Joint Replacement patients. Dr Arora told that this event was held, to dispel myths surrounding joint replacement surgeries and to remove misconception from the mind of a common man that joint replacement surgery is not successful. The previous was record was of 100 participants. In this gathering of 200 patients who had their joint replaced, participated in various physical activities includingraces and running. They also danced to the tune of some popular songs. These patients who had already undergone joint replacement surgery, shared their life changing successful stories.
Prof.  Arora told that when one talks of joint replacement surgeries in our country, people carry negativity in their mind regarding the surgery and are not sure about the results. Joint Replacement Surgery is considered the most successful surgery of the last century and it can give you predictably positive results, if done by an expert, in a proper environment and by a proper technique. Millions of patients are there in our country who can derive benefits of joint replacement surgery but do not come forward for this surgery out of fear. This event was organized to showcase the positive results of joint replacement surgery and to remove the fear in minds of people about joint replacements.  Prof Arora showed many couples (Husband and Wife) who had undergone Total Knee Replacement Surgery.
Prof. Arora told that there is no other better way to give this positive message to the society than showing live examples of hundreds of joint replaced patients who shared their life changing stories on joint replacement surgery.
People also have a  misconception that it requires prolonged bed rest after knee or hip replacement surgery. On the contrary Dr Arora showed a case, where a lady who was bedridden for last 30 years, was able to walk independently 48 hours after PINLESS Computer Navigation Technology for both knee replacements. The lady was able to back on her feet again after 30 years!!! For this Dr Arora was awarded a record in Limca Book of Records in 2017.

Renewable Energy Can Build Prosperity and Improve Energy Security in Pakistan

IRENA assessment shows Pakistan’s abundant renewable resources can boost power generation and energy access
Islamabad, Pakistan, 10 April 2018 — Pakistan can spur social and economic development with renewable energy while increasing energy security and improving energy access, according to a new report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) prepared in co-operation with the Government of Pakistan.  Renewables Readiness Assessment Pakistan provides a comprehensive analysis of the country’s energy sector and identifies key actions to accelerate renewable energy deployment.
While hydropower has traditionally been the most prominent source of renewable energy in Pakistan — making up almost a third of electricity generation with 7.1 gigawatts (GW) of installed grid-connected capacity — IRENA’s assessment finds that the country has up to 60 GW of economic and technical hydropower potential. The assessment also identifies 50 GW of theoretical wind potential in Pakistan’s southern Sindh and Baluchistan provinces and estimates that 25 million tonnes of biomass feedstocks from industrial and agricultural residue can be made available for use, per year.
“Pakistan is undergoing rapid economic and industrial development, which in turn is fuelling strong energy demand growth across the country,” said Adnan Z. Amin, IRENA Director-General. “To meet this demand Pakistan has a tremendous opportunity to cost-effectively tap its abundant solar, wind and hydropower resource potential. Doing so would support national prosperity and job creation, whilst enhancing security of supply, improving access and moving Pakistan towards greater energy independence.”
“Pakistan is rich in renewable energy potential, and can with this assessment develop policies, investment opportunities and energy development actions to harness it,” said Abid Sher Ali, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Power. “Critical to this report has been IRENA’s valuable policy guidance and technical assistance to determine our best available renewable-based power options,” continued Minister Ali.
The report shows that declines in solar photovoltaic (PV) technology costs have supported the sector’s growth in Pakistan, with 400 megawatts of solar PV projects in 2015-2016, helping to create over 15,500 local jobs.
In recent years, Pakistan has seen a surge in providers offering a range of solar home system products including solar water pumping systems, solar lighting solutions and solar water heaters. With more than half of Pakistan’s total population residing in rural areas, millions remain reliant on traditional biomass use. Among Pakistan’s rural population, only half have access to electricity.
IRENA’s assessment presents options for Pakistan to strengthen its policy, regulatory and institutional framework in order to accelerate renewables deployment. It suggests ways to strengthen renewable energy targets, examines the constraints of existing grid infrastructure, highlights the best mechanisms to reduce costs and address technical challenges, and underlines the potential for private investment in renewables for off-grid and rural electrification.
To further utilise the country’s indigenous renewable energy resources, Renewables Readiness Assessment Pakistan finds that key challenges can be addressed by:
  • Setting a target for renewable energy development;
  • Co-ordinating the development and implementation of an integrated energy plan;
  • Encouraging renewable energy zoning and competitive procurement to reduce overall system costs;
  • Involving the private sector in the development of transmission infrastructure to enhance the grid;
  • Devising a comprehensive distributed power generation plan;
  • Developing policy and regulatory frameworks and implementation mechanisms that facilitate private-sector engagement in rural electrification.
To download the report, visit IRENA’s website.
Over 30 countries, spanning Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, have undertaken the Renewables Readiness Assessment process since 2011.

ARTES successfully completed EU funded poject Plurivax

ARTES Biotechnology explored very effective in a SME consortium vaccine developments for veterinary applications

Langenfeld,   Under the titel: “ERA-Net EuroTransBio-8: PLURIVAX, development of a virus-like-particle (VLP) based vaccine platform and stable formulation especially suited for the veterinary applications, the EU cooperation was part of the 8th EuroTransBio call and was funded in the time period from June 2014 to November 2017 by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Flanders (Belgium) agency for Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT).
For the development of vaccines for human applications it is state of the art to use virus-like particles (VLPs) as a vehicle. The use of these particles has the advantage that they as such not being infectious but that they transport foreign antigens in an ideal way to the immune system. These very effective and simple mechanism was the backbone of the PLURIVAX project.
“As initial nucleus our proprietary VLP platform METAVAX® was taken. This platform has already been applied to the development of adjuvant-free vaccine candidates against different human relating diseases like flu, malaria and HIV”, Michael Piontek, managing director of ARTES stated. “Our expression host, the methylotrophic yeast Hansenula polymorpha, is the preferred technology for affordable mass vaccination and is recommended by the WHO for mass vaccinations. Combination of our both platforms build an excellent approach to low-cost mass production of safe and effective vaccines.”
ARTES chose eight different, large molecular weight antigens derived from four animal‑ infecting viruses. The bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) as an important pathogen of cattle, also infecting sheep and pigs. The classical swine fever virus (CSFV), which is acknowledged as a global threat for swine and is listed as notifiable animal diseases by the World Organization for Animal Health. The feline leukemia virus (FeLV) as a retrovirus threatening domestic cats and the west nile virus (WNV) which is a mosquito vector transmitted zoonotic virus of the Flaviviridae family. WNV circulates in birds as natural hosts but can be transmitted to mammals including humans causing west nile fever.
First results were released in a scientific paper under the title “Establishment of a yeast-based VLP platform for antigen presentation” (Wetzel et al. Microb Cell Fact (2018) 17:17 )
and more information could be get on https://doi.org/…
Future steps are, that in close discussions with global veterinary vaccine manufacturer, ARTES’ explores the commercial application of the results and of the platform in general.

School scandal cover-up admission

Finance Ministry official says Moritomo Gakuen was told to lie about land sale
Financial Bureau chief Mitsuru Ota, center, appears in front of a Diet committee on April 9. (Photo by Uichiro Kasai)
TOKYO — A Japanese Finance Ministry official admitted Monday that nationalist school operator Moritomo Gakuen was instructed to provide false explanations for a deeply discounted land sale, igniting further speculation over the role of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife in the 2016 deal.
“We are now more suspicious that the discount was made in consideration of the Abes,” Kiyomi Tsujimoto, head of Diet affairs for the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party, told reporters Monday. Akie Abe, the prime minister’s wife, was appointed an honorary principal of the elementary school to be built on the land.
The comments Monday from Mitsuru Ota, chief of the ministry’s Financial Bureau, also were cited by others as showing that the ministry knew of the dubious aspects of the sale and was actively involved.
The Japanese government agreed in 2016 to sell a plot in Osaka Prefecture valued at 956 million yen ($8.93 million at current rates) for just 134 million yen to Moritomo Gakuen. The steep discount ostensibly was intended to cover the cost of waste disposal at the site shouldered by Moritomo.
A Financial Bureau staffer called Moritomo’s lawyer around Feb. 20, 2017, and urged the school operator to claim the disposal process took a lot of money and “thousands of trucks,” Ota told a Diet upper house committee. Opposition parties at that time had noted Moritomo would need to move over 4,000 truckloads of waste to justify the roughly 800 million yen discount.
“I am very ashamed. I am very sorry,” Ota said repeatedly. The land sale and instructions to Moritomo Gakuen occurred before Ota became chief of the Financial Bureau.
His statement sparked commotion among opposition lawmakers at the meeting. Even members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party seemed shocked by the ministry’s actions. One legislator banged on her desk, while another loudly called Ota “an idiot.”
Ota also said someone from his office told a staffer at the Kinki Local Financial Bureau, which oversaw the land sale, to urge Moritomo to stick to the story. But neither the Kinki bureau nor Moritomo’s lawyer agreed.
Ota suggested that former National Tax Agency chief Nobuhisa Sagawa bore some fault. Sagawa, who led the Financial Bureau at the time, “spoke to a Diet committee without checking the facts” and “made comments that could be taken the wrong way,” he said.
Some suspect a comment by the prime minister pressured Financial Bureau staffers to ensure they had a plausible reason for the discount. “If I or my wife end up being involved, I will quit as prime minister and a lawmaker,” Abe had said on Feb. 17, 2017.
At a hearing last month, Sagawa said he lacked the power to manipulate land appraisals. But the Board of Audit of Japan in November found insufficient evidence to support the estimated waste disposal costs. Saeko Tani, then an aide to Akie Abe, was also found to have relayed questions from Moritomo to the Finance Ministry and sent the responses via fax.
The Osaka prosecutors office has agreed to investigate the case in response to complaints of possible government misconduct. The Financial Bureau’s apparent attempt to coordinate its story with Moritomo likely was uncovered as part of this process.

CAIT IS HOLDING ALL PARTY TRADERS PARLIAMENT ON SEALING

SEALING WILL BE A PRIME PLANK IN 2019 ELECTIONS
Taking sealing agitation to a new direction, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) is holding an ” All Party Traders Parliament ” on sealing issue on 10th April at New Delhi which will be attended by leaders of prominent political parties.and will held serious discussion to understand the gravity of the issue and will suggest remedial measures through mutual dialogues. The political parties will also make their stand clear on this issue.
CAIT Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal said that BJP State President & MP Mr. Manoj Tiwari, Congress State President & former Union Minister Shri Ajay Maken and Chief of Aam Aadmi Party & Delhi CM Mr. Arvind Kejriwal have been invited to the event beside Delhi Deputy CM Mr. Manish Sisodia, all Delhi MPs of both LokSabha and RajyaSabha, Spokesman of AAP & MLA Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Shri Vijender Gupta & Deputy Leader Shri Om Prakash Sharma and all three Mayors of MCD have also been invited.
Mr. Khandelwal said that about 200 prominent Trade Leaders of leading Trade Associations of Delhi will be attending the event. The CAIT will present a Traders Charter on Sealing to all parties and will seek their opinion. If through a mutual understanding something concrete is evolved, the CAIT will take an All Party delegation to Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and others as a follow up exercise.
The sealing issue is now becoming one of the most critical issue among the trading community since it has vital bearing on livelihood of lakhs of people in Delhi. Sealing of one shop is disturbing livelihood of about 20 families. Gradually this issue is inching towards 2019 Elections as the traders are minutely assessing the role of political parties and in mutual conversation of traders it is becoming an Election issue for 2019. There are about 8 lakh commercial, establishments in Delhi providing employment to nearly 40 lakh people. The families of traders and their employees are also attached to establishments. On the other hand about 10 lakh people like Courier, Transporter, Hand Cart Owner, artisans etc. are also dependent upon the traders for their earning.
Such a big chunk of people if converted into a Vote Bank could bring mandate to its own choice. Some kind of deliberations and discussions are underway among traders in Delhi. If traders also have to face the wreath of sealing then Traders and their employees can easily convert themselves into a Vote Bank. Even otherwise, the traders are disillusioned from the current business scenario. Beside sealing, the complexities of GST, 100% FDI in single brand retail, No use of Mudra Yojna for traders and over and above gross neglect of traders by the Government are some of the burning points which can damage political fabric to a great extent.
The sealing issue is also important to trade of Delhi and its economy as well. If situation continues, there will be sharp decline in Delhi trade in coming days and huge loss of revenue to the Government. In last 3 months trade has declined to about 40% in Delhi. The important question is what is the fault of traders ? When Government Agencies proved utterly failed in development of Delhi why only traders are being penalised and traders and their employees are being deprived of their earning by sealing the business establishments.

Two groups of the UN chemical watchdog’s experts to Syria

Russian envoy to the UN called on the West to “refrain from plans” it might be harboring for Syria, after three consecutive resolutions to investigate the alleged recent chemical attack near Damascus failed to pass.
The latest resolution to fail was a Russian-sponsored draft backing an Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) fact-finding mission at the site of the alleged attack in Douma. The draft received five votes in favor (Russia, China, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan and Bolivia), four votes against (the US, the UK, France and Poland) and six abstentions, falling short of the minimum nine votes required for adoption.
The failure of an “innocuous” draft in support of an impartial investigation into the alleged chemical incident in Syria’s Douma is a “litmus test which speaks volumes,” Russia’s UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia said. The draft was based on, and “almost completely copied,” an earlier proposal by Sweden. Nebenzia argued that the proposal was stonewalled simply because it ultimately came from Russia.
Nebenzia warned of the consequences that ill-conceived decisions by the West might lead to, saying that the threats towards Syria “should worry us, all of us, greatly, because we could find ourselves on the threshold of some very sad and serious events.”

Nebenzia warned of the consequences that ill-conceived decisions by the West might lead to, saying that the threats towards Syria “should worry us, all of us, greatly, because we could find ourselves on the threshold of some very sad and serious events.”
US and its allies’ refusal to back the Russian proposal shows that “our Western colleagues do not need any independent investigation,” Nebenzia said, reiterating Russia’s calls to exercise restraint with regards to Syria.
The US, UK and France had earlier indicated they are likely to resort to military action in response to the alleged chemical incident in Douma on Saturday. They believe the alleged attack was perpetrated by the Syrian forces dropping chlorine-filled munitions on civilians, based on reports by the rebel-linked White Helmets civil defense group.
The Russian envoy once again called for the West to show restraint.
“I ask you once again – refrain from the plans which you might be harboring with regards to Syria,” he said.
Justifying the nay vote by the US, Ambassador Nikki Haley accused Russians of hypocrisy, claiming it is “very good in being consistent and playing games.” The proposed draft, she said,“does not accomplish anything.”
The draft resolution mainly asks for the OPCW to send a fact-finding mission to Douma. But the fact-finding mission is already travelling to Douma, they have a mandate to investigate and collect samples,”Haley noted. The draft, she argued, aimed to put “the Russian and the Syrian governments in the driver’s seat for making arrangements” and to “micromanage” the OPCW investigation.
“This Council, and least of all Russia, should not be calling the shots,” she stressed.
US approach is far from attempting to establish the truth, and is more about its own geopolitical agenda, former US diplomat Jim Jatras told RT.
“This has nothing to do with the alleged use of chemical weapons. This has everything to do with a geopolitical agenda that wants to put the Iranians in a box, wants to confront Russians in Syria,” Jatras said. The former diplomat also noted that Western powers and their local allies like Saudi Arabia are “upset” over their own failed efforts in the region.
As the Syrian government and President Bashar Assad remain in power, the US has “been seeking a pretext to change that, so this really has nothing to do with the truth or falsehood of the allegations about Douma,” according to Jatras.
Council rejected two rival drafts on Syria submitted by Russia and the US. Russia, which vetoed the US-sponsored draft, said that it was designed to justify what seems to be an imminent military action against Syria. Nebenzia argued that the US resolution was an attempt to resurrect the Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM), whose mandate had expired in November and it would take months to implement. The draft gives the UN Secretary-General 30 days to set up a new investigative body.
The subsequent Russian-sponsored draft failed to gain enough votes, with the US blaming Moscow for trying to influence the composition of the team of experts, as well as the itinerary of the mission.
The OPCW, meanwhile, announced it is sending a fact-finding mission to Douma “shortly.”According to Nebenzia, two groups of the UN chemical watchdog’s experts will leave for Syria by the end of this week.

NAPM condemns the high-handedness of UCIL and Andhra Authorities

NAPM condemns the high-handedness of UCIL and Andhra Authorities
Detention and prevention of activists from participating in public meeting on ‘uranium mining impacts’ at Kadapa, Unlawful and Undemocratic.
UCIL-BARC must come clean on its operations and ensure that all its activities are subject to strict environmental and legal regulations.
10th April, 2018: National Alliance of People’s Movements strongly condemns the high-handedness of the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), a Govt. of India undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy (headed by the Prime Minister) and the Andhra Pradesh police in misbehaving with activists of Human Rights Forum and NAPM and denying them access to the venue of a public meet yesterday in Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh by unlawfully detaining them for a couple of hours.
The team that was arbitrarily detained on their way to the UCIL (where the meeting was called) and taken to Vemula police station included septuagenarian Dr. Babu Rao; eminent scientist and environmentalist (HRF-NAPM), Adv. Jayasree Kakumani of Human Rights Forum and Rajesh Serupally, NAPM.  It was only after intense protest by the activists and villagers and an immediate letter by EAS Sarma, Former Secretary, Govt. of India to the Collector, Kadapa and Mr. Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, that Dr. Babu Rao was allowed to participate in meeting with nuclear scientists and officials from UCIL and BARC. However, the other activists were kept in unlawful detention and released only late into the night at around 9 pm. All of them were made to sign papers stating that they would not indulge in such ‘anti-social activities that disturb peace’, which they did, under protest signatures. Media entry to the meeting site as also restricted.  Interestingly, this ‘awareness meeting’, had to be held at a neutral place but was called for within the UCIL premises itself.
In response to the series of complaints and protests by the villagers and some intervention, at people’s behest, by Mr. Y.S Avinash Reddy, the YSR-CP MP representing Kadapa constituency in the Parliament, the UCIL authorities consented to ‘meet’ the villagers to ‘create awareness’ and address their queries and demands. Since much of the terminology used by UCIL is generally technical, the villagers approached activists associated with HRF, NAPM and other people’s groups to attend the meeting on 9th April, along with them, to have a more effective interaction with the officers of UCIL & Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), in a better way. Thus, to deny access to public-spirited persons who came to participate in the meeting, at the invite and request of villagers is totally undemocratic and brazenly disempowering. If the UCIL can take the aid of BARC’s scientists, so can the villagers take assistance of independent scientists and activists. To deny people this right is arbitrary and unacceptable.
It may be noted that the Tummalapalle mine in Kadapa district is estimated to hold one of the largest reserves of uranium in the world, catering to fuel requirements of nuclear power plants. While the UCIL obtained clearance from the Centre in 2006, mine operations began around 2012. Not surprisingly, locals state that land acquisition for the plant was done in a coercive manner and public hearings before the environmental clearance witnessed protests and police action against villagers.
Over the past couple of years, the villagers of Mabbuchintilapalli, KK Kotala,Bhumayagaripalli and Kanumalavaripalem, residing barely 6 kms away from the mine and processing plant at Tummalapalle, have been repeatedly protesting against UCIL, complaining of plummeting underground water levels, due to relentless pumping and drastic increase in sodium and uranium, leading to air, soil, ground and surface water contamination.  Reportedly, this pollution has been happening due to poor lining for the tailing pond, causing seepage. The cumulative impacts of the plant operations in the form of damage to agriculture and standing crop, water, health of local population (skin allergies, ulcers and kidney problems) and livestock (illnesses ad pre-mature deaths), alleged negligence by contractor and plant authorities is a saga of continuing anguish and anger. Apparently, quite a few villagers have had to ‘vacate’ their houses, due to these impacts. There is widespread fear in the region of the long-terms implications of radiation, making the place another ‘Jaduguda’.
We have learnt that water samples collected by local farmers from their tube wells and tested at the labs of Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET), an autonomous scientific body under the Govt. of India, produced results indicating significant increase in uranium and sodium levels, much higher than the permissible and standard level. Besides, in December 2016, researchers from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Anantapur, analysed samples of water and soil and noted increased levels of barium, arsenic, cobalt, chromium, copper, molybdenum, lead, vanadium and yttrium, which could impact crop productivity and local environment. This study was also published in the International Journal of Advanced Research. It is now well-established that heavy metals, if consumed in large quantities, may lead to severe health issues, including cancers, respiratory and kidney complications.
Instead of addressing all these concerns, the UCIL recently issued an advertisement in newspapers claiming that a “few individuals and NGOs are spreading wrong information against the organization”, in a way indicating that all is not well with its operations. Clearly, such a public announcement, detention and denial of access to civil society activists, is more a measure to discredit and muzzle voices that are raising uncomfortable and important questions, in public interest.
UCIL’s operations in Kadapa, is yet another classic case of weak post-clearance monitoring by the authorities, especially the Pollution Control Board (PCB) and the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF & CC). NAPM demands that the UCIL must ensure full disclosure of all necessary information in the public domain and in a manner discernable to the local population. It must immediately comply with all conditions stipulated at the time of project clearance including payment of full and fair compensation for all forms of losses and impacts incurred by the local population due to UCIL operations. PCB and MoEF must undertake an immediate visit, comprehensive assessment and rigorous monitoring of the present status of environmental compliance (or lack of it) and conduct a post-clearance public audit and hearing. These monitoring authorities should also be ready to issue and impose orders of cessation of operations, if violations are found.

A new star is rising to replace modi…
Yogi Will Prove To Be Modi’s Nemesis Just Like Modi Was Vajpayee’s – News Central 24×7

Malaysia “Voting day is on May 9,”

Malaysia’s “Voting day is on May 9,” commission chairman Mohamad Hashim Abdullah told a press conference. There will be an 11-day campaign period before the election.
Victory is however less certain due to the comeback of Mahathir, 92, who has turned on his former protege Najib over the 1MDB scandal.
In a stunning volte-face, he was named the prime ministerial candidate in the opposition coalition Pact of Hope, which is filled with parties he crushed during his 22 years in power.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition´s popularity has been sliding in recent years and its problems have been worsened by a multi billion-dollar scandal surrounding state fund 1MDB, but Najib is still tipped to win due to BN´s firm grip on power.
He is under pressure from allies in his United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the main coalition party, to score an emphatic victory after the government lost the popular vote for the first time at the last election in 2013.
Voters had become increasingly disillusioned over recurring graft scandals, divisive racial politics in the multi-ethnic country, and the rising cost of living.
The 1MDB scandal has only added to Najib´s woes.
Billions of dollars were allegedly looted from the fund in an audacious campaign of fraud and money-laundering which is being investigated in several countries, and it is claimed that large sums ended up the personal bank accounts of Najib.
Najib, who has been prime minister since 2009, and the fund deny any wrongdoing.

Student protests across Bangladesh

Thousand of university students across Bangladesh blockaded roads on Tuesday in the third day of protests against what they say are discriminatory quotas for government jobs.
Students took to the streets in Dhaka and elsewhere despite assurances from the government that it would review the controversial quota system.
The mass protests roiling campuses across the country have been among the biggest faced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her decade in power.
At Dhaka University — where more than 100 were injured in clashes with police in recent days — students vowed to stage sit-ins until the government reform the quota system.
“We´ll continue our agitation until the authorities accept our demands,” said Rahat, one of the roughly 500 students camped out at the university’s main square.
The protest was largely peaceful, with no repeat so far of the tear gas and rubber bullets fired by police to disperse crowds.
But outside the camps, traffic was brought to a standstill as protesters blocked roads in the nation´s capital.
The protests also spread to private campuses for the first time since the demonstrations erupted on Sunday, drawing hundreds to the streets.
Demonstrators want the share of top government positions set aside for minority groups and the disabled significantly reduced.
They are also particularly irate that 30 percent of government positions are reserved for descendants of veterans from Bangladesh´s independence war in 1971.
The government promised to review the system on Tuesday, but that caused a rift among demonstrators, with some accepting the assurance and others resisting it.
A pro-government faction of the student movement had postponed its protest action but left-leaning groups pledged to keep up the fight.
Hasina — whose father was the architect of Bangladesh´s independence from Pakistan — has in the past rejected demands to slash the quotas.

Mauritania, was taken offline for two days

An entire country, Mauritania, was taken offline for two days because an undersea cable was cut.
The 17,000-kilometer African Coast to Europe submarine cable, which connects 22 countries from France to South Africa, was severed on March 30, cutting off web access partially or totally to the residents of Sierra Leone and Mauritania.
It also affected service in Ivory Coast, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Gambia, and Benin, according to Dyn, a web-infrastructure company owned by Oracle.
ACE cable(Oracle Dyn)
It is not clear how the cable was cut. But the government of Sierra Leone seems to have imposed an internet blackout on the night of March 31 in an attempt to influence an election there.
There had not been a significant outage along the cable in the past five years.
Loss of service to Mauritania was particularly severe, as the Dyn chart below shows.
“The most significant and longest-lasting disruption was seen in Mauritania, with a complete outage lasting for nearly 48 hours, followed by partial restoration of connectivity,” David Belson wrote in a Dyn research blog on Thursday.

Honey Baisoya storms ahead

Honey Baisoya fires a 64 to storm ahead by three at halfway stage of Kolte – Patil presents Pune Open Golf Championship 2018

Pune, April 11, 2018: Delhi’s Honey Baisoya dominated round two of the Kolte – Patil presents Pune Open Golf Championship 2018 as he fired a sensational seven-under-64. The 21-year-old Baisoya, a four-time winner on the PGTI, moved into a three-shot lead at 12-under-130 as a result of his super effort at the Poona Club Golf Course on Wednesday.

Allahabad’s Samarth Dwivedi (65) and Ahmedabad’s Udayan Mane (67) shared second place at nine-under-133.

Honey Baisoya (66-64), one of the seven joint overnight leaders, did not enjoy a great start to the day as he was one-over after five holes thanks to two early bogeys and a birdie. He then got into his groove with three birdies between the sixth and the ninth. The highlight of his round came on the 10th where he made an eagle-two after driving the green and sinking a 10-footer.

After suffering a minor hiccup with a bogey on the 11th, Honey drained four birdies to end up with a card of 64. The pro from the Delhi Golf Club made some spectacular birdies on the back-nine. He drove the green on the 14th before making a two-putt and then almost holed it from 153 yards on the 18th.

Baisoya said, “The conditions were tougher today as the wind was up. I did well to shoot a seven-under despite a slow start. My putter was on fire today. I made a career-best 24 putts today which included 12 to 13 single putts. However, on the other hand, I haven’t been in good driving form. I gave myself a target of five-under today and that served me well.

“After the quiet start, the birdies on the sixth, seventh and ninth really helped me settle down. I found the bunker on the ninth but recovered well to extract a birdie there. Thereafter, the eagle on the 10th was a huge confidence-booster.

“As for the plan for the next two days, I changed my swing a couple of days back so I’m working on that aspect and also looking to improve on my hitting. My goal this week will be to try and break the 20-under mark.”

Udayan Mane, the overnight joint leader, returned a bogey-free 67 to drop to tied second place. Samarth Dwivedi posted a 65 to move up eight places to joint second.

Om Prakash Chouhan of Mhow, another round one leader, was a further shot back in fourth position.

Sri Lankan K Prabagaran produced the tournament’s best score, an eight-under-63, to end the day in tied fifth at seven-under-135. Prabagaran’s sizzling error-free round saw him follow-up his eagle-two on the fifth with birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth. The Lankan holed his approach shot from 125 yards for eagle on the fifth. Prabagaran was a picture of consistency during round two as he missed just one green in regulation.

Delhi’s Naman Dawar, also one of the leaders in round one, sank two eagles, both chip-ins, during his second round of 70. Naman holed it from the bunker for an eagle-two on the 10th. Dawar closed the day in tied eighth at six-under-136.

Among the other prominent names, joint round one leader Digvijay Singh from Gurgaon slipped to tied 16th at four-under-138. Delhi’s Rashid Khan was also in tied 16th while Chandigarh’s Ajeetesh Sandhu was in tied 20th at three-under-139.

The only Pune player who made the cut was Akshay Damale (71-70). He was tied 30th at one-under-141.

The cut was declared at one-over-143. Fifty-nine professionals made the cut.

Defending champion Anura Rohana of Sri Lanka missed the cut by three shots.

Putin, Erdogan discuss Syria in phone call

The presidents of Russia and Turkey discussed the situation in Syria in a phone call on Thursday, media reports say, citing Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov. A Turkish presidential source also said that Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin discussed recent developments in Syria during a telephone conversation. The source said that the two leaders agreed to remain in close contact on Syrian issues. Erdogan said earlier that he was going to speak with Putin after he had exchanged views on Syria with US President Donald Trump on the phone.

Cho Yang-ho no comments on Cho’s misbehavior

South Korean police have launched an inquiry into reports a daughter of the chairman of Korean Air Lines threw a water bottle at someone’s face, the second daughter of the airline chief to get into trouble over an angry outburst.
Cho Hyun-min, a senior vice president at the airline, apologised on Thursday for her “foolish behaviour”, following media reports that she threw a water bottle at the face of a manager at the airline’s advertising agency.
In her apology on her Facebook page, Cho did not give details of the incident and an airline spokesman said she had thrown a water bottle on the floor, not at anyone’s face.
Cho’s older sister, Heather Cho, made headlines over a notorious “nut rage” incident in 2014, when she lost her temper over the way she was served nuts in first class and ordered the Korean Air Lines plane she was on to return to its gate at a New York airport.
Police had launched a preliminary investigation to see whether Cho Hyun-min had abused her power or broken any law in connection with the latest reports, an official at Seoul Gangseo Police Station told Reuters on Friday.
The official gave no details of the inquiry. Such inquiries are carried out to determine if a formal investigation of an incident is warranted.
A Korean Air Lines spokesman said the company had yet to be informed of any preliminary investigation.
The airline’s chairman, Cho Yang-ho, has not commented on the incident involving his younger daughter, who has left the country on a vacation, the company said.
The behaviour of the rich and powerful is sensitive in a country where the economy is dominated by family-run conglomerates know as chaebol, particularly days after a court jailed former President Park Geun-hye for 24 years over a scandal that exposed deep ties of corruption with several chaebol.
Korean Air Lines was not connected to the Park scandal.
Thousands of people have in recent days posted comments on a presidential office website where members of the public can lodge petitions, to demand changes at the airline.
Many of the people who signed a few dozen petitions demanded that the airline remove the word “Korean” from its name and stop using the symbol on the Korean flag as its logo.
Many said the daughters’ behaviour was “degrading” for the country and the company.
A petition needs to gain more than 200,000 signatures within 30 days to prompt a mandatory response from the presidential office.
Heather Cho was found guilty of breaking aviation law and jailed for a year over her “nut rage” incident but was freed in May 2015 after an appeal.

Due to this amendment relaxation is granted under the Petroleum & Natural Gas Rules 1959 (PNG Rules, 1959), to Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiaries for not applying for grant of license/lease under the PNG Rules, 1959 for extraction of Coal Bed Methane (CBM) under their Coal Bearing Areas.
Impact:
The decision is in line with the Government’s initiatives of ‘Ease of Doing Business’.  It will expedite the exploration and exploitation of CBM, enhance the availability of natural gas and reduce the gap in demand and supply of natural gas. The increased development activities for exploration and exploitation of CBM gas reserves in-and-around the block will generate economic activities which in turn has potential to create employment opportunities in CBM operations and in the industries.

Pak SC: Former Pak PM Nawaz Sharif disqualified

Supreme Court of Pakistan in its ruling a setback to former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday ruled that he will never be able to contest elections or hold public office ever in life.
Justice Umar Ata Bandiyal read out the verdict, which seals the political fate of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen and other lawmakers disqualified under the said article.
The court has ruled that the disqualification will hold until the court declaration disqualifying the lawmaker stands.
The court said that the disqualification handed down under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution is for life.
Pakistan’s ousted premier was disqualified under Article 62(1)(f) by a five-judge SC bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on July 28, 2017 on charges on allegation in connection with the Panama Papers case.
Supreme Court in a historic verdict ruled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been disqualified for life, State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said the verdict is the same as Nawaz’s trial court case.
“This decision is similar to Supreme Court rulings which took former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to the gallows and led to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto,” the information minister said while addressing the media in Islamabad on Friday.
Marriyum stated that time and again, democratically elected leaders of Pakistan are unceremoniously removed from their post. “This joke has already been played on previous premiers and all 17 prime ministers of Pakistan have faced a similar fate.”
“Today’s decision is the same as Nawaz’s trial court case,” she added maintaining that a decision has been made on a trial which is still under way.
She said, “Decisions against Nawaz are made first and trials are conducted later.”
“The verdict has started a phase of Nawaz’s politics which our enemies should be afraid of,” the information minister added.
Claiming that not a “single rupee’s corruption has been proven against the former premier”, the information minister said, “The case on which Nawaz has been disqualified for life is still under way as is the case which disqualified him from his premiership.”
“The NAB court trial is incomplete and Wajid Zia has also said there is no documental evidence to show that Nawaz took money from his son’s company,” she said.
“Nawaz was first disqualified as prime minister, then removed as head of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), his party was barred from participating in Senate elections and now they have ruled against him from holding a public office for life,” the minister said.
Reiterating that the PML-N quaid is still facing trials, Marriyum said, “The premier was elected through the votes of the people and the decision regarding his disqualification also lies with the people.”
She lamented, “A prime minister who ended terrorism and load-shedding from the country and initiated development projects has been disqualified for life.”
Responding to a question, she further said, “We all respect Pakistan’s constitutional institutions and respecting the Supreme Court is necessary for us all.”
The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that lawmakers disqualified under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution will be unable to contest elections for the rest of their life.

Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his “full” support for US-British-French strikes on Syria, which he says conveyed a “message” of “zero tolerance for the use of non-conventional weapons,” according to Israeli media. During a phone call with his British counterpart Theresa May, he said that the same policy should be applied to “terrorist states and organizations” to prevent them from attaining nuclear capabilities. He then branded Iran as the main destabilizing factor in the Middle East, and warned Syrian President Bashar Assad that he jeopardizes his country’s domestic security and the stability of the entire region by hosting “Iranian bases.

The team of ‘Daas Dev’ in New Delhi

_DSC5366.JPG
Actress Richa Chadda along with another talented actor of Bollywood Industry Saurabh Shukla were witnessed in Nation’s Capital for the promotions of their upcoming romantic political thriller film ‘Daas Dev’. Along with them actor Rahul Bhat and director Sudhir Mishra were also present in the press conference held in Hotel Le Meridien. As their film is scheduled for release on the coming 20th April, therefore the entire team interacted with media and shared their experiences and views about the movie.
While talking about the challenges Richa faced while portraying her character of Paro in the film, she stated, “Challenges are always there especially for the movie or stories which were adapted few times and everyone knew this character was portrayed by big artists as well, so yes it was challenging, but I must say this movie is different, holding a new motive and a believable adaptation. This Paro is bit tough, I don’t feel like nowadays Paro will cry for her Dev and will run after him in a saree. She has her own style and attitude, she rides her own scooty and bikes, showcasing her dignity and respect. Its an ego thing, we won’t judge her whether she is right or wrong. This movie is a great adaptation and I am sure people will like this film.”
On the other hand, the director of the film Sudhir Mishra shared his views on the film, he said, “I feel like this movie will target all kind of audience. Every Indian understands politics and its addiction so I think this is the most accessible of my films. And there is no problem of understanding at all. The subtext of the film, that you can fix everything your relations, work but you can’t fix love. It’s a powerful story of political addiction where love is not possible, and how you overcome your addiction and see the positive side of love.” Whereas, Saurabh Shukla and Rahul Bhat also seemed confident about their upcoming flick.
Well, featured under the banner of Storm Motion Pictures and Saptarishi Cinevision Production, ‘Daas Dev’ also features Aditi Rao Hydari, Vineet Kumar Singh and Dalip Tahil in complex supporting roles along with Anil George, Deepraj Rana, Saurabh Tyagi with Anurag Kashyap in a guest appearance.

Let’s talk about goats: Boosting India’s goat sector could double rural incomes

New Delhi, 16 April 2018 – The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is partnering with the Government of India, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Agri-solutions, to host a two-day conference starting today to discuss how to significantly improve the goat sector in rural areas, specifically in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha states.

Raising goats is an income-generating activity that has enormous potential to increase incomes and improve nutrition for resource poor households, especially in remote, tribal and ecologically vulnerable areas. It is an activity that requires minimal investment and input costs. Goats are also prolific breeders and have a good survival rate in drought prone areas.

India has the second largest global goat population and has the potential to increase its role and profits in the lucrative global goat market.

Building a vibrant goat sector in India is critical to reducing poverty, meeting the Sustainable Development Goals and India’s own rural development goal of doubling farmers’ income by 2022. In this context, the conference will bring together international technical experts and national policymakers. Krishna Raj, Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, will deliver the keynote address.

“We can really have an impact on poverty reduction because we can demonstrate that we can double smallholder producers’ incomes by improving their goat production and by connecting them to the increasing market demand for mutton and goat meat,” said Antonio Rota, IFAD’s Lead Technical Specialist on Livestock.

“There are various parties that are ready to invest. We would like to help producers and interested parties come together and create the kinds of lasting partnerships that support goat producers and allow them access to the untapped market as equal partners. IFAD is specialized in brokering public, private, producer partnerships. We can make a change by helping rural communities develop and improve the goat sector,” Rota added.

The two-day event will be followed by a learning route which will include visits to locations that host the latest developments in the goat sector in the country – innovative health service delivery, commercial farming, modern processing, and links to markets.

Assad said attack coupled with campaign of lies

Syrian President  Bashar al-Assad said after the attack by US, France and UK on suspect of chemical weapons used he is determined to defend and combat more aggressively with radicals for sovereignty rather look for efforts of peace.
April 15 (Xinhua) — Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said Sunday that the U.S.-led missile strike on Syria was coupled with a campaign of lies in the UN Security Council, according to the state news agency SANA.
The tripartite strike launched by the United States, Britain and France against Syria, the campaign of lies and misdirection at the UN Security Council against Syria and Russia proved that both countries were fighting not only against terrorism but also breach of the international law based on the respect of the countries’ sovereignty, Assad said.
His remarks came during his meeting with a delegation from Russian Federation in Damascus.
Members of the delegation slammed the U.S.-led strike as a clear violation of international accords, adding that the attack came at a time when the Syrians were working to restore stability and rebuild what was destroyed by the terrorist groups.
They also affirmed that Russia would remain firm in its support for Syria

MOSCOW, April 15 (Xinhua) — Further actions violating the U.N. charter such as the recent U.S.-led strikes on Syria will result in chaos in international relations, Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Iranian counterpart Hassan Ruhani over phone on Sunday.
The two leaders condemned Saturday’s airstrikes by the United States and its allies on Syria and agreed that it would hinder the process of a political settlement in the war-torn country, according to a Kremlin statement.
“It was stated that this illegal action seriously damages the prospects for a political settlement in Syria. Putin in particular stressed that if such actions, carried out in violation of the U.N. Charter, continue, it will inevitably lead to chaos in international relations,” the statement read.
The United States, together with Britain and France, launched missile strikes on Syria on Saturday, saying that it was in response to an alleged chemical weapon attack by the Syrian military. The Syrian government has categorically denied the accusation.
The United Nations Security Council on the same day held an emergency meeting over the missile attack at Russia’s request but failed to approve a resolution condemning the bombardment.

Renew, the most credible new party in UK politics, is challenging discredited established parties in key local elections on May 3rd. Campaigning is well underway in Renew’s first test at the ballot box. While others toy with the idea of a new party, Renew candidates are already on the ground offering voters a genuine opportunity for real change. “We’re doing the hard graft of building a party now, as there’s a clear need. Standing in local elections shows we’re not just a talking shop. We’re building support from the grassroots up and working on a new agenda for the UK,” said Renew Principal James Clarke.
16 Renew candidates are vying for seats on local councils in North Tyneside in the North East, and Wandsworth, Tower Hamlets, South Ealing, Chiswick and Greenwich in London. Renew candidates are standing on a platform to stop Brexit which is harming local and national interests, so councils can better address underlying grievances and improve local communities after years of neglect.
Some are entering politics for the first time, spurred by a sense of duty and despair over Brexit and the dismal performance of government and opposition. Tom Bailey, a chartered surveyor and director of a technology company is the Renew candidate for Tynemouth. “It’s time we pushed back against the politics of fear and mistrust and handed back to residents some real control over their community, with more decisions taken at neighbourhood level on issues like traffic, development and regeneration. We need to stop throwing money at Brexit and concentrate on what matters to local people.”
Renew is also standing nine candidates in local elections in Wandsworth, a key battleground in London, where former Conservative councillor James Cousins has already defected to the party: “I left the Conservatives because they represented backward-looking factions and interests rather than the ambitions of local residents. I’m proud to lead Renew locally and offer
a genuine alternative for people no longer represented by the hijacked traditional parties.”
The party hopes to draw support from among the three million EU citizens living in Britain, who were barred from voting in the referendum but who can participate in local elections.
Renew founder Chris Coghlan is standing in Balham. “Our message to voters is not to let party politics get in the way of real change. We also encourage our valued EU nationals to vote for us in Wandsworth, so we can advocate for their interests in the face of the Conservative government’s cynical and divisive approach to Brexit.”
Daria Hass is standing in Queenstown. “After over 20 years as head teacher, and seeing the degradation of resources for housing and education, it’s time to make a difference. The wishes of local people must be heard and opportunities recreated.” The party is campaigning for more central government funding for local councils after eight years of Conservative austerity.
Council budgets have been cut by as much 40%, leaving the social and infrastructural fabric of communities in tatters. Neighbourhoods are crumbling, social care is suffering, pollution is increasing and some sports centres and libraries have been forced to close. This is happening while the Conservative government dishes more false promises and limp rhetoric about better times ahead after Brexit.
Party principals stressed those thinking of forming parties were taking too long to act. “It’s encouraging that so many people recognise the need for a new party”, explained Principal James Torrance. “At Renew, we believe the best way to break through is by bringing new voices into politics from all walks of life, people with integrity and the courage to fight for their communities. That’s what breaking the political mould means for us.”
Principal Sandra Khadhouri urged immediate action. “We’re proud to stand in elections, responding to public demand for something new. By the time other parties set up, it will be too late to offer a genuine alternative. With major parties pushing us in the wrong direction, we urge activists and donors to join us now. People deserve to know another future is possible.”

Background:
Renew is a registered political party set up by a group of independent candidates who stood in the June election 2017 on a campaign to Rethink Brexit, Renew Britain. Building on mass disaffection with existing political parties, Renew has enjoyed overwhelming support for its centrist agenda to address inequality and create a new vision for modern Britain – from a
position of strength as a full EU member. So far, the party has welcomed 3,500 volunteers and supporters and received 1000 applications to be parliamentary candidates from all over the UK – including health workers, teachers, economists, public sector workers, media. Renew is recruiting 650 credible candidates for any future election and will campaign to Remain in the
EU in a public vote on Brexit terms and conditions.

EU fails to agree new Iran sanctions

Tehran said Monday that EU sanctions over its human rights record were due to “differing values.” Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said that “we have certain differences of opinion with European countries and the European Union.” He emphasized differences “notably as concerns human rights.” On Thursday, the EU extended by a year sanctions against 82 individuals and an entity accused of “serious human rights violations in Iran.” According to Ghasemi, long-running dialogue with the EU should continue, focusing on areas of agreement and in “a constructive atmosphere of good will.”
European Union failed to agree new sanctions against Iran on Monday amid fears that punishing Tehran for its missile program and regional role would not stop US President Donald Trump from abandoning a separate nuclear deal. The ministers hoped holding Iran accountable for this could help convince Trump not to walk away from the nuclear agreement. However, they ran into opposition from Italy, backed by Austria. After EU foreign ministers’ discussions in Luxembourg, some diplomats said the outcome meant the EU might not make Trump’s May 12 deadline to “fix” the 2015 nuclear accord, Reuters reported. The EU is eager to safeguard the pact.

Trump still wants to meet Putin

There is great amount of mistrust between two great powers  but silver lining between the two giants is the intention of Mr Trump to meet Mr Putin on cards which can bring global peace to an extent that  global economy can be tendered to better results.
US President Donald Trump is still willing to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters. She indicated, however, that no imminent meeting is planned so far. The US president believes that it would be better for the world if Moscow and Washington had good relations, the spokeswoman said, adding that Trump also believes the state of relations between the two countries will depend on Russia’s actions.

Russia : Alleged chemical incident in Syria’s Douma was a “false-flag attack,”

World Health Organization (WHO) still doesn’t have access to the town of Douma in Syria, the agency said on Tuesday. However, the WHO is working with the country’s authorities to arrange a visit for a health assessment mission to the site of the alleged chemical attack as soon as possible, spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told RIA Novosti. The WHO mission would work in Douma separately from the mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the spokesman said. Also on Tuesday, Russian permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, said that the Syrian authorities had created conditions for the normal work of the OPCW in Douma. The previous day, the UK delegation to the OPCW said that Russia and Syria had not yet provided access for the OPCW’s mission to Douma, an allegation rejected by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.
US must have been well aware that there were no chemical stockpiles at Syrian facilities the coalition destroyed in their ‘retaliatory’ strike, Russian chemical weapons experts told RT, noting the absence of toxic emissions.
Announcing the early Saturday morning missile strikes, the American-British-French coalition asserted that their forces were targeting compounds associated with Syria’s alleged chemical weapons stockpiles. Now, after the dust settled, serious questions arise about the actual presence of any hazardous substances at these sites, including the bombed-out scientific facility in the Barzeh district in northern Damascus.
“This scientific research center has been inspected for several times by experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons [OPCW], moreover, a decision was taken to carry out such inspections twice a year,” Anton Utkin, a Russian chemical weapons expert and former UN inspector in Iraq, told RT.

Moscow has “irrefutable proof” that the alleged chemical incident in Syria’s Douma was a “false-flag attack,” orchestrated by UK security services with support from the United States, the Russian envoy to the OPCW said.
“We have not just a ‘high level of confidence,’ as our Western partners uniformly put it; we have irrefutable proof that there was no chemical attack in Douma on April 7,” Russia’s Ambassador to the Organization for the Prohibition of the Chemical Weapons Aleksandr Shulgin said at a special meeting of the UN chemical watchdog’s executive council. The diplomat added that the incident had been a “pre-planned false-flag attack by the British security services, which could have also been aided by their allies in Washington.”
“Things unfolded according to the pre-written scenario prepared by Washington. There’s no doubt, the Americans play ‘first fiddle’ in all of this,” Shulgin said, adding that “attack” was staged by “pseudo-humanitarian NGOs,” which are under the patronage of the Syrian government’s foreign adversaries.
Russian radiological, chemical and biological-warfare units carefully examined the scene of the alleged attack mentioned in the NGOs’ reports immediately after the liberation of Douma from the militant groups, Shulgin said. He then drew attention to the fact that the Russian military specialists found “not a single piece of evidence” substantiating the claims about the alleged chemical attack. Instead, they found local witnesses who said that the video allegedly showing the aftermath of the perceived attack was in fact staged.
The timing of the attack was also bewildering, the Russian diplomat said, adding that the Syrian government had absolutely no reason to gas its own citizens when the city was already almost liberated from the militants. Under such circumstances, the accusations against Damascus look “absurd,” he said. “The senselessness of these claims is striking,” Shulgin added, referring to the statements of Western leaders.
The US and its allies are not interested in a real investigation into the alleged Douma attack, the Russian envoy to the OPCW said. Washington, London and Paris immediately pinned the blame for the incident on Damascus, and launched strikes against Syrian military and civilian facilities without waiting for the OPCW team even to start its investigation on the ground.
Shulgin extended his gratitude to the OPCW investigators for their work in Douma and called on the organization’s executive council to adopt a document supporting their efforts. He also denounced the actions of the US, the UK and France as “military aggression,” adding that “this crime can be by no means justified.” Washington, London and Paris “are playing the hypocrite as they pretend to be the defenders of the international law. In fact, however, no one except for their allies… has any doubts that the major threat to the world comes from these ‘leaders’ of the Western [political] camp,”Shulgin said.
Washington and its allies launched a missile strike targeting Syrian military and civilian facilities on Saturday, in retaliation for the alleged “chemical attack” in Douma. Russia denounced the strikes, calling them “hooliganism” in international relations and “an aggression against a sovereign state.”
Meanwhile, the OPCW investigators are expected to start their work in Douma on Monday. They met with Syrian officials on Sunday to discuss the details of their work. Damascus says it hopes that the experts will “stay neutral and not yield to pressure.” The OPCW team plans to finish its work on Wednesday and present its preliminary report to the UN before its departure from Damascus, local media report.

Yashwant Sinha attacks BJP

Have reviewed the currency situation in the country. Over all there is more than adequate currency in circulation and also available with the Banks. The temporary shortage caused by ‘sudden and unusual increase’ in some areas is being tackled quickly.
BJP leader and Visakhapatnam MP K Hari Babu resigns from the position of state unit president on Tuesday
Written by Yashwant Sinha :The economic situation is grim, despite tall claims to the contrary by the government that we are the world’s fastest growing economy. A fast growing economy does not accumulate the kind of non-performing assets in its banks, as we have done over the last four years. In a fast growing economy the farmers are not in distress, the youth are not without jobs, small businesses do not stand destroyed and savings and investment do not fall as drastically as they have done over the last four years. What is worse, corruption has raised its ugly head again and banking scams are tumbling out of the closet one after another. The scamsters also manage to run away from the country somehow, as the government watches helplessly.
Women are more unsafe today than ever before. Rapes have become the order of the day and instead of acting strictly against the rapists we have become their apologists. In many cases, our own people are involved in these heinous crimes. The minorities are alienated. The worst is that the Scheduled Castes and Tribes, the weaker sections of our society, have been exposed to atrocities and inequities as never before and the guarantees given to them in the Constitution stand threatened.
The sum total of our foreign policy seems to consist of frequent foreign visits by the prime minister and his hugging foreign dignitaries, whether they like it or not. It is completely devoid of substance and has failed miserably even in our immediate neighbourhood, where China is trampling all over our interests. The smartly executed surgical strike by our brave jawans against Pakistan has been wasted and Pakistan continues to export terror to India unabated as we watch helplessly. Jammu and Kashmir continues to burn, Left wing extremism refuses to be tamed, and the common man is suffering as never before.
Internal democracy in the party stands completely destroyed. Friends tell me that even in parliamentary party meetings, MPs do not get an opportunity, as in the past, to air their views. In the other party meetings, also, the communication is always one-way. They speak and you listen. The prime minister has no time for you. The party headquarter has become a corporate office where it is impossible to meet the CEO.
The press conference by four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court was unprecedented in the annals of our democratic history. It brought out clearly the rot that has been allowed to afflict the highest judicial institution of our country. The judges have repeatedly pointed out that democracy in our country is under threat.
Today, it appears as if winning elections by controlling the means of communication, specially the media and social media, is the sole purpose of our party and even that is threatened seriously now. I do not know how many of you will get the ticket for the next Lok Sabha elections but if previous experience is any guide, half of you at least will not. The chances of your winning the election, even if you get the ticket are fairly remote. In the last Lok Sabha election the BJP had secured only 31 per cent votes; 69 per cent was polled against it. So, if the opposition unites, you will be nowhere.
The situation demands that you speak up in the national interest. I am glad to note that at least five Scheduled Caste MPs of the party have expressed their disenchantment with the government for not delivering on the promises made to the community. I am urging you to also express your opinion frankly before the bosses on all issues confronting us. If you remain silent now you will do a great disservice to the country. Future generations are unlikely to forgive you. It is your right to demand accountability from those who are in government today and are letting down the country. The interest of the country supersedes that of the party, just as the interest of the party supersedes the interest of an individual. I am appealing specially to Advaniji and Joshiji to take a stand in the national interest and ensure that the values they have made such unparalleled sacrifices to uphold are protected and preserved for future generations and corrective steps are taken in time.
There have been some minor successes no doubt, but the big failures overshadow them completely. I hope you will give serious consideration to the issues I have raised in this letter. Please pick up courage, and speak up and save democracy and the country. Inputs from Indian Express

Space of Memory in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Dear colleagues,
The Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH) and the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) are delighted to invite you to their 99th joint urban workshop on:
Local Conflicts and Illegalisms in the Production of a Space of Memory in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
by Nicolas Bautès
On Tuesday, 24 April 2018 at 3:45 p.m.
P.C. Nicolas Bautès
This talk is about the various social and legal strategies adopted by different actors in thecontext of urban restructuring in the Port zone of Rio de Janeiro, with focus on the particular case of landmarking Pedra do Sal, an Afro Brazilian historical and religious monument located in this zone. By narrating the different strategies used in this complex set of conflicts around social recognition, demarcation of a place of memory and heritage making, I will try to situate these in the socio-political processes accompanying the ongoing urban reformsPorto Maravilha (Operação Urbana em Consórcio, municipal law 102/2009), launched in 2009 with the aim to promote local restructuring, by extending, forming and re-qualifying the region (Concessionaria Porto Novo).
I will discern such strategies through the claims of inhabitants who have faced the consequences of historical injustice as well as the current urban reforms. Through their voices, and based on a series of interviews conducted with several stakeholders, from local shopkeepers and activists to members of drug dealers’ movements, I will show in which ways informal power games, social pressure and intimidations permeate the harbor district as it undergoes profound structural changes, and operate decision making processes, influence speculation and promote economic benefits through producing and marketing heritage.

The technical alert was issued by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security. It warned everyone from internet service providers to home office customers to heed the warning, after the government agencies found cyber attacks targeting devices such as internet routers.
They cited cybersecurity research organisations and other governments as providing evidence of such attacks, without providing details of their timing or scale. The joint statement comes amid worsening relations between the two countries and Moscow after Washington and London launched coordinated strikes against Russia’s ally Syria.

Recommendations
The current analysis of the candidates fielded by the major party shows that political parties continue to give tickets to candidates with serious criminal cases. The Association for Democratic Reforms recommends that political parties should refrain from giving tickets to candidates with a serious criminal background. The political parties should take a stand against misuse of money power, bribing of voters and distribution of freebies. Further, the political parties should move towards transparency and disclose the criteria for selection of candidates during elections.

Philip May’s Company Benefits From the Syria Strikes

Philip May now works as an investment relationship manager for the Capital Group.
Capital Group has amassed over 360,000 shares in the company, up over 11 percent on the previous quarter, which may have contributed to a hefty rise in BAE’s share price, which currently stands at around 600p.
Philip May’s Capital Group was linked to the Paradise Papers scandal in 2017. News and current affairs magazine, Private Eye, suggested at the time that Philip May’s company used offshore law firm Appleby to devise investments in tax havens.
When asked at the time of the scandal about her husband’s role, a spokesperson for the UK PM told reporters: “Mr May is involved in the development of Capital Group’s retirement solutions. He is not an investor but consults with other Capital associates on retirement products and solutions for clients.”

Philip May, husband of the UK prime minister, works for a company that is the largest shareholder in arms manufacturer, BAE Systems, whose share price has soared since the recent airstrikes in Syria.
Capital Groups ties with the American global aerospace, defence, security, and advanced technologies company, now called Lockheed Martin, are as strong as ever. Currently, Capital Group owns around 10.39 percent of Lockheed Martin. So, while UK Prime Minister Theresa May supports Trump and Macron’s military action in Syria, she is also helping her husband’s investment firm to make a killing.
The Syria air strikes that took place on 14th April, 2018 saw the debut of a new type of cruise missile developed by the Lockheed Martin Corporation.
The JASSM was produced at a Lockheed Martin plant in Troy, Alabama, and has a low radar cross-section that makes it difficult to detect. The air-launched cruise missile is designed to penetrate as far as 200 miles into enemy territory. The extended version, which destroyed the Barzah Research and Development Center located in the greater Damascus area, can fly more than 500 miles.
The Pentagon suggested after the raids that 17 of the 19 JASSM’s, fired from B-1B bombers outside Syrian air space, were effective.
Capital Group,  another entity is also the second-largest shareholder in Lockheed Martin – a US military arms firm that supplies weapons systems, aircraft and logistical support. Its shares have also rocketed since the missile strikes last week.
Many believe,  BAE Systems has done very well out of the UK-US-France allied airstrikes on Syria, which were sanctioned by Theresa May. It has been reported that the UK’s contribution to military strikes was to fire eight ‘Storm-Shadow’ missiles at an alleged chemical weapons facility, each of which cost £790,000 ($1.13 million) – totaling £6.32 million ($9 million). The missiles were manufactured by BAE Systems.
FCA refuse to investigate . May’s husband’s company is a major shareholder in HSBC.Theresa May’s husband’s company (Capital Research & Management co.) is also a major shareholder in HSBC, as well as its clients BAE Systems.

Re(b)ordering the World: Visual Politics of the (New) Silk Road
Prof Marina Kaneti, Phd, Fellow, China India Scholar-Leaders Initiative, India China Institute, The New School, New York

About the talk:
At a time of “thickening” of borders across the West, is there an “opening” of borderlands and territories in the East? In replicating the land and maritime connections of the ancient Silk Road, is the Belt Road Initiative (一带一路) bound to reshape our understanding of territory, space, and mobility?
In this talk, Prof Kaneti shares her preliminary research on the ways in which the symbolic use of images of the Silk Road serve a dual purpose: to generate a vision for global interconnectivity and affirm the legitimacy of the Belt Road Initiative (BRI). Using an interpretative analysis of maps, public slogans, and museum exhibits, the speaker argues that visual representations of the (new) Silk Road redefine understandings of modernity and prosperity, center and periphery, inclusion and exclusion.
About the speaker:
Professor Kaneti’s main specialisation is in global politics and political theory, with a thematic focus on migration, state policies and economic development. She received her PhD from the New School for Social Research, USA in 2016; and was the recipient of the 2016 Hannah Arendt Dissertation Award. She also holds an MPhil in political theory from the New School, as well as MS in Social Enterprise Administration and BA in East Asian Studies from Columbia University. Marina recently accepted a tenure track Assistant Professor in Global Studies position at the Grand Valley State University in West Michigan. She’s also China India Scholar-Leaders Fellow at the India China Institute, The New School, New York.
Her current research studies the intersection between trade agreements, migrants’ networks, and urbanisation dynamics in the context of the Chinese New Silk Road, also known as the Belt-Road initiative. She will be spending the summer researching the “Belt” part of the Silk Road. Her most recent publications include “(Re)branding the state: border control and the moral imperative of state sovereignty”, co-authored with Mariana Assis in Social Research (2016) and “Mêtis, Migrants, and the Autonomy of Migration” in Citizenship Studies (2015).
