Smart Meters – 60% Fast, No Consumer Friendly Feature
May15, 2019 (C) Ravinder Singh ravindersinvent@gmail.com

Er. Anjli Chandra, PSERC, Chandigarh led Government side, BRPLled private power sector and I mainly represented All Consumer side at an event on Smart Metering.

The event was about Installing 30 Cr Smart Energy Meters including BPL consumers who consume 1 or 2 units a day. Capital and O&M cost was not disclosed – Could be Rs.80,000 Cr to Rs.1,50,000 Cr plus Rs.50,000 Cr Annual O&M, SIM Cards & Data.

Since 2003 – BRPL, BYPL & NDPL in Delhi had installed ‘Software Operated Smart Consumer Meters – almost 100% - Over 5 Million Today in Delhi’ but in Supreme Court and dealing with Regulators & Government claim them to be ‘Electronics Meters.’ All their Consumer Friendly features were DISABLED. For BRPL+ these were 100% SMART it can Download all the OPERATING DATA – for Consumers as Good as E-M Meter.

Since 1974 or last 45 years this WIPO awarded inventor wanted Indian companies to be World Leaders and has Offered Technologies to Birla, Tata and Ambani and all others but Industry preferred Financial Manipulation as means to earn profits than Customer Services, and Efficient Technologies.

RIL was told in 2011 ‘You Have So Much Money – Can Promote 100,000 Technologies and be World’s First $1000b Company’. RILengaged Mashelkar who filed BOGUS Patent and Fake Research – soon over 50,000 IDEAS or So Applied to PARTNER with RIL – after 2-3 years it all COLLAPSED.

Reliance Power Shares in last 5 yrs peaked at Rs.108.95 today trades at Rs.5.74, figures for Tata Power are Rs.111.20 & Rs.61.35 and Adani Power are Rs.55.55 and Rs.38.70.

Reliance Power IPO price was Rs.430 – currently trading at just over 1% of IPO Price.

1.     SMART METERING was introduced immediately after MANAGEMENT TAKEOVER by two old Mumbai Power Distribution companies – BSES and Tata Power in July2002 itself, when Electro-Mechanical Meters recording Low Consumption were‘TESTED By ACCUCHEK METER [5 Decimal Accuracy] ON SITE’ – in 5 minutes. Slow by even 1% were replaced immediately – 17% Fast were last to be replaced.

2.     SMART METERS were introduced since 2003 as 2nd or 3rd Meter, [Checked EM Meter, Electronic Meter and SMART METER] within Two years BRPL, BYPL and NDPL had introduced near 100% - but Large Percent 46% of Distribution Transformers had no Meter – Smart or Electronic even 5-6 years after July2002 Takeover. EVEN TODAY Smart Meters are MISSING in Distribution Transformers – BRPL+ get no Information about Distribution Transformers OVERLOADS & TRIPPING – many times for hours.

3.     When I led CAMPAIGN against FAST METERS for six months across Delhi – found None of the Consumer Friendly Feature was OPERATING – Decimal Points for Energy, Live Load in Watts, Max & Min VOLTAGE, Current & Power Factor, Frequency, Daily Energy Consumption, Power Cuts and Duration were not available. Live Load in Watts was introduced after years of Struggle.

4.     2003 – SPOT READING, BILLING & COLLECTION was introduced in Andhra Pradesh, reducing MANY ACTIVITIES & CUT COST and Avoided 4P Printing of Bills.

5.     In 2003 itself – Second Display of Smart Meters in Living Room of Consumers was available but not Offered to ALERT Consumers about CONNECTED LOAD.

6.     In 2005 I Petitioned BRPL+ to provide ‘Annual Analysis of Consumer Consumption’, units Billed, Payments Made or Pending, Peak Load, Minimum Load on Monthly basis, Power Cuts in Numbers and Total Duration.

Consumer MISTRUST or CHEATING – Poor Quality of Service

Reliance Power executive blame Consumers for Their MISTRUST of Smart Meters, which they had already INSTALLED as Electronic Meters – These Meters RUN Fast, 60% Fast.

Reliance Power executive further alleged that My Testing of Meters was for 100W Lamp – It was PHILIPS Lamp tested to be consuming 100W at 230V.

RWA were advised in 2005 to use LAMP TEST by Switching Of All Connected Load – engaging LINEMAN – Heavy Load required CONNECTING between Meter and MCB – Violated Supply Conditions -  BRPL could register THEFT CASE.

It was also ALLEGED that Consumers with Sanctioned Load of 1-2 KW Run Air-conditioners – actually BRPL Connected Load yesterday was 12,000+ MW, Peak Demand was 2321 MW and Minimum Load was 1345 MW.

Amazon Smart-TV installation team was ready before Delivery – but BRPL is Different.

When there is HT Cable Breakdown – Consumers of the HT Feeder suffer Frequent Breakdown of power. After some days CABLE FAULT Location is identified, Another Team comes next day for Digging, another day CABLE JOINTER Team comes to JOIN The Cable, another day a team comes to Restore the Dug Up area.

When an OLD TRANFORMER develops some Problem – Consumers face frequent Disruptions – A STANDBY Transformer taken from JUNK YARD is Brought and Connected – Transformer in Use is Sent for REPAIR – another day Brought back and Re-Installed.

In Conclusion it was ADMITTED – BRPL+ failed to EDUCATE CONSUMERS ABOUT DEMAND SIDE MANAGEMENT POSSIBLE WITH SMART METERS SINCE 2003. Reason All initially and Many Consumer FRIENDLY were Disabled, in 2003 – Second Meter Display could have been provided in Living Rooms like Wall Clock – reminding consumers all the time about Connected Load.

Ø We could have TOLD Consumers to Avoid or Delay switching on Air Conditioners, Geysers, Booster Pumps, Washing Machines when FREQUENCY of power supply is 49.9 per second or less prefer when 50.1 or more, but feature was DISABLED.
Ø We could have PARTNERED with 1% Largest Consumers who have GENERATORS for Load Management than affecting 100% Consumers.

Finland helps Afghanistan build better sanitation

Ministry for Foreign Affairs  16.5.2019 8.30
NEWS ITEM

Unicef’s Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene programme (WASH) has improved the quality of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene for hundreds of thousands of people in Afghanistan. Between 2017 and 2018, Finland contributed EUR 2 million to the programme.
In 2018, Unicef’s WASH programme in Afghanistan had a budget of USD 20 million. The majority of the funding from Finland, USD 1.6 million, was allocated to improving sanitation.

Two-thirds of the budget was spent on development projects and the remaining third on humanitarian work. Last year, 1.9 million people received humanitarian aid through the WASH programme. The large share of the humanitarian aid was explained by the severe drought that affected Afghanistan last year. None of the Finnish funding was spent on humanitarian aid.

Fighting polio with clean water

Diseases caused by contaminated water are the second most common cause of death for children under the age of five in Afghanistan. The lack of safe drinking water and sanitation combined with poor hygiene also help spread polio.

Dozens of polio viruses have been found in the slums around Kandahar, and Helmand province is also an area where polio is considered high risk.

In rural areas, one in five people do not have sanitation. For this reason, organic waste accumulates in their living environment and contaminates soil and water.

Nearly 200,000 people benefited from improved water supply in rural areas. The preferred technological solutions included solar-powered and gravity-fed pumps, taking advantage of the elevation differences in mountainous regions. The share of these new technologies increased to 81 per cent of all technological solutions used, significantly reducing the number of hand pumps.

Slightly over 20 per cent of the funding allocated to development aid was spent on sanitation improvements, with 526,000 beneficiaries. The programme’s aim is to meet the needs of the entire population by 2025.

Attending school during menstruation

Approximately 15,000 students gained access to the water and sanitation improvements carried out in schools last year. However, less than a third of them were girls. The new recommendations for helping girls stay at school during periods were therefore a significant achievement. The message “My menstruation should not be a barrier for my education” reached 315,000 girls and 840 female teachers in 22 provinces.

Some of the programme funds were allocated to water and sanitation rehabilitation and capacity building in health centres. Approximately 51,500 students and 1,100 teachers benefited from these hygiene improvements. Depending on the programme area, the project partners included three ministries: Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Public Health. Civil society organisations played a major role in implementing the improvements.

Implementation of Unicef’s WASH programme was possible in nearly all of the provinces, including those under Taliban’s influence.

In Afghanistan, the El Niño weather phenomenon brings exceptionally heavy snowfall, which in turn causes severe flooding in spring. For this reason, the share of humanitarian aid in the WASH programme may remain high in the coming years, which may undermine the results in the other programme areas.

Niko Heimola

The writer works at the Department for the Americas and Asia as the official responsible for development cooperation in Afghanistan. The figures are based on the Annual Report presented to the organisations funding Unicef’s WASH programme.

Kashmir on alert

Two Indian airbases in Kashmir have been placed on high alert in response to a warning of planned terrorist attacks, reports say. One of the sites houses jets that participated in aerial combat with Pakistan in February.
Fresh intelligence data shows that terrorists plan to target two military sites on the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir, New Delhi-based ANI reported on Friday, citing government sources.
The installations mentioned are Srinagar and Awantipora airbases, both in western Jammu and Kashmir State, bordering Pakistan. Security forces in and around the bases have been reportedly put on high alert.
The report did not specify the type of anticipated attacks or the terrorist groups involved.

Manning jailed on probe of Julian

A judge sentenced ex-U.S. soldier Chelsea Manning again to jail for refusing to testify over leaking 700K documents to Wikileaks. She could serve up to 18 months. She already served 7 years in prison for espionage.

Manning told reporters outside the courtroom that she will persist in defying the federal subpoena “forever, indefinitely.”
Her remarks to media Chelsea Manning. Where are the defenders of liberty and decency?

The new grand jury subpoena appears to be related to the US prosecution of WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange, who was arrested last month and is currently awaiting his extradition hearing in the UK. Assange is officially accused of conspiring with Manning to hack into Pentagon computers, while acknowledging the hack never actually happened.
A federal judge has ordered Chelsea Manning to be jailed again for refusing to testify in a grand jury probe of Julian Assange, threatening the whistleblower with fines if the defiance continues. Manning says she would rather die.
“I would rather starve to death than to change my opinion in this regard. And when I say that, I mean that quite literally," Manning said during a hearing at a federal courthouse in Virginia on Thursday.
The US Army intelligence specialist has already spent seven years behind bars for handing over classified military and diplomatic files to WikiLeaks in 2010, and another 62 days in jail until last week for refusing to testify before another grand jury,
when asked, Chelsea Manning why the government is even going ahead with this process knowing that she'll never betray her principles to testify.
She explained that the government's "goal here is really to re litigate the court-martial" for which she already served 7 years.
Manning faces a fine of $500 a day if she continues to refuse cooperation after 30 days in jail. The fine will go up to $1,000 a day after two months.
“I have never heard of jailing a witness for this long,” former FBI agent and whistleblower Colleen Rowley

PM Conte holds talks with Haftar

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte held talks with Libyan strongman Khalifa Haftar during a surprise visit to Rome on Thursday, calling for an end to his month-long assault on Tripoli. “We want a ceasefire and we feel that the political path is the only solution,” Conte told reporters.
A joint statement, Italy and France stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire in Libya and called for “the resumption of dialogue within the framework of the United Nations command to allow Libyan citizens to decide their future through democratic elections.”
“Improving the situation of the civilian population is a priority and requires a humanitarian truce. The political process must be based on the principles and rules agreed at the Paris, Palermo and Abu Dhabi conferences, and we assume that all parties are unequivocally distancing themselves from terrorist groups,” the statement said.
The sources said that Libyan Army Commander General Khalifa Haftar is expected to leave Rome for Paris to meet with French President Emmanuel Maaron, according to the Italian news agency AKI.
Image
Haftar’s bid to unseat UN-backed premier Fayez al-Serraj and take control of the Libyan capital has reached a military and political impasse after a month of fighting, AFP said.
French President Emmanuel Macron will meet Haftar in the middle of next week to discuss how to resume peace talks in the country, Reuters quoted a French presidential source as saying on Thursday.
Macron last week called for a ceasefire in the month-long battle for Libya’s capital Tripoli after meeting Serraj.

F-16 pilot safely ejects

An F-16 fighter jet being flown in routine training exercises crashed into a warehouse just outside March Air Reserve Base in Southern California on Thursday, but the pilot safely ejected and no injuries were reported, a base spokesperson said.
The Los Angeles Times, citing a base fire official, reported that the crash ignited a small fire, and a photo of the accident scene posted on local television station KCAL-TV showed a gaping hole in the roof of a large grey building.
The warplane went down at about 3:30PM and slammed into a warehouse at the end of the base runway, base spokesperson Major Perry Covington told Reuters by telephone.
“The pilot did eject and the pilot is OK, and there are no other injuries at this time,” he said, adding he did not believe anyone was inside the warehouse when the crash occurred.
The sprawling installation, located in Riverside County, California, about 105 kilometres (65 miles) east of Los Angeles, is home to the Air Force Reserve 452nd Air Mobility Wing. There are normally between 2,000 and 6,000 Air Force reservists and other personnel on base at any given time, Covington said.
A section of Interstate 215, a major north-south route running through the base, was closed in both directions after the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP urged motorists to avoid the area.

63 % polling recorded in final phase of Lok Sabha polls

Voting for the seventh and final phase ended this evening. Fifty-nine constituencies went to polls today — 13 each are from Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, nine in West Bengal, eight seats each in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, all four constituencies of Himachal Pradesh, three in Jharkhand and lone seat of Chandigarh.
Around 63 per cent polling was recorded till 6 PM.  57 per cent votes were cast in Uttar Pradesh; 60 per cent in Punjab; 73 in West Bengal; 53 in Bihar; 70  per cent in Madhya Pradesh; 66 in Himachal Pradesh; 71 in Jharkhand; and 64 per cent in Chandigarh.
In Himachal Pradesh, over 66 percent voters exercise their franchise for four Lok Sabaha seats. Official correspondent reports that the state recorded higher polling as compared to the last Lok Sabha election.
In state polling for 4 constituencies spread across 12 districts ends at 6:00 pm today. With this the fate of 45 candidate’s contesting to make it to a parliament has been sealed in EVM machine. An impressive turnout was recorded on all four seats. Polling was by and large peaceful except reports of EVM malfunction in some polling stations. Braving the cold at world’s highest polling station Tashigang of Lahol Sphiti voters came wearing their traditional attire with great enthusiasm.India’s “first” voter 102years old Shyam Saran Negi of kinnaur district also reached to exercise his franchise at the Kalpa booth in Mandi Lok Sabha seat.It may be recalled that  Forty-five candidates are in the fray for the the four loksabha seats–Shimla, Mandi, Hamirpur and Kangra, however direct contest is between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.
Uttar Pradesh  Correspondent reports that even in naxal affected areas people came out in large number to vote. Barring some incidents of glitches in EVMs overall polling was peaceful in the last and final phase of elections. Heavy security arrangements were in place on all the polling booths of 13 seats.  Especially in Varanasi people were very enthusiastic in using their franchise, some even came to polling station amidst much fanfare. In those areas of Sonbhadra district which were earlier naxal affected, people voted in large numbers without any fear. First time voters were very enthusiastic to cast their votes. Today’s polling will decide fate of many political stalwarts including senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhojpuri fim star Ravi Kishan Shukla, Union Ministers Manoj Sinha, Anupriya patel, state presidents of BJP and BSP  Mahendra Nath Pandey, and RS Kushwaha and former union Minister RPN Singh. With today’s polling the election extravaganza completed peacefully in the state which saw a high voltage campaigning from almost 2 months and a rigorous seven phased polling on a total of 80 constituencies.
In Bihar voting was held in Nalanda, Patna Sahib, Patliputra, Ara,Buxar, Sasaram, Karakat and Jahanabad Lok Sabha constituencies. Political fate of 157 candidates has been sealed in EVMs after today’s poll.
Official  correspondent reports that in comparison to 2014 elections this time 2.06 percent more  voting was recorded. In rural areas comparatively  more electorates  excercised their right of franchise .Like previous phases of elections  percent of   women voters  was more than male. Important candidates whose political fortune  have been sealed in EVMs are four  Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad,Ramkripal Yadav,Ashwani  Kumar Choubey and R.K.Singh.Besides Shatrughan Sinha of Congress ,former Speaker Meera Kunar,Upendra Kushwaha of RLSP and Misa Bharati of RJD are also trying their luck.
In Jharkhand large number of people today cast their vote on three parliamentary constituencies, Godda, Dumka and Rajmahal. Official correspondent reports that three parliamentary constituencies of Jharkhand- Godda, Dumka and Rajmahal have seen heavy pool today which is higher than 2014. Two of the three seats were won by the JMM in 2014 while Godda was won by the BJP. But this time BJP has shown initiative to establish itself in the strong hold of JMM on one hand, whereas JMM has forced coalition with the Congress, JVM and RJD  to check the BJP. What does today’s heavy poll indicate, is a matter of political speculation and analysis until final results comes out on 23rd May.
In west Bengal, polling was marked by violence. Official correspondent reports that sporadic violence marked the last and final phase of polls in West Bengal. May new deal Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May today promised a new and improved deal to save her controversial Brexit agreement through Parliament when it comes up for a fourth vote next month.
In a write up in The Sunday Times, Ms May said when the Withdrawal Agreement Bill comes, it will represent a new, bold offer to MPs across the House of Commons, with an improved package of measures that can win new support.
Ms May said that she was open to holding a series of indicative votes in Parliament in a last-ditch effort to try and see her deal through.
The British Prime Minister has been struggling to surmount the opposition to the controversial Irish backstop clause in the agreement, which the EU sees an insurance policy against a hard border between its member-country Ireland and the UK after Brexit.
However, the Brexiteers within her own Tory party have consistently voted against it over fears that it could be used as an excuse to keep Britain tied to EU norms even after its exit from the 28-member European economic bloc.
May warned that even though her new package will be a stronger proposition, it was important for the parliamentary arithmetic to fall into place to avert a chaotic no-deal Brexit and leave the EU with a deal in place by the latest deadline of October 31.

Bihar, Gujarat to Match US $50,000 PC-GDP in 3000-400 Yrs
NK Singh gave Bihar 1.2% India F. Capital, $16 GDP Growth
May20, 2019 (C) Ravinder Singh ravindersinvent@gmail.com

NK Singh and other economists ADMITTED – Public Savings rate in India had declined to 12% or between 10% to 15% against 30% or more earlier and 40% in China, richest 1% make 72% Income up from 52%, not giving exact figures because there was no presentation of actual data.

Exactly a month ago I had reported based on RBI Report – When Gujarat registered Rs.8,874 or $130 annual Per Capita GDP growth Bihar registered only Rs.1,122 or $16 annually – or Monthly increment of Rs.100 or $1.4 only. At this rate BIHAR will match USA present $50,000 per Capita GDP in 3000 Years and Gujarat 400 years.

Even this $130 for Gujarat and $16 for Bihar is not EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED – 1% get 76% of the GDP growth – 99% practically getting nothing.

India is running out of Resources at just $2,000 Per Capita GDP achieved in over 72 years. Made three interventions – Rs.5,00,000 Cr sucked up as TAXES on Petroleum Products – IMPACTS every sector of economy. Many sectors like RAILWAYS are under Performing and Punjab produces 80 million tones of Foods but practically no Processing – PEPSI Plant relocated in drought prone state.

IOM Assists Over 130 Yazidis

IOM Assists Over 130 Yazidis to Resettle from Iraq to France

President Macron has pursued this policy with the support of 2018 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Nadia Murad, who has advocated for vulnerable Yazidi women worldwide.
The initiative was the subject of a signing ceremony between IOM and the French Government attended by Ms. Murad two weeks ago in Paris.
“Today we have come to see you off on your new journey to France,” Dominique Mas, the French Consul General in Erbil, told the Yazidi families as they boarded the aircraft.
“In France you will receive protection, security, education, as well as medical and social support,” he continued.
The 28 Yazidi families are moving to France five years after the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIL, swept through Sinjar, the stronghold of Iraq’s Yazidi community. Since those attacks, a significant portion of the community remains displaced, including hundreds of families who fled to Mount Sinjar in 2014.
“We are grateful for the French government’s support to this vulnerable group of Yazidis, some of whom have gone through a terrible ordeal,” said Gerard Waite, IOM Iraq’s Chief of Mission. “IOM Iraq continues to assist all displaced Iraqi citizens, including Yazidis, both in areas of displacement as well as in their hometowns, to facilitate their sustainable reintegration.”
Prior to their departure, IOM assisted the families with transportation from Dohuk to Erbil, accommodation in Erbil and medical check ups. The teams also organized cultural orientation sessions and are facilitating their travel to France.
“As this group of Yazidi families touch down in Toulouse and surrounding areas, local nongovernmental organizations are ready to assist them to facilitate their integration in the host communities,” said Ambassador Eric Chevallier, Director of the French Crisis Center, before boarding the plane alongside the families on their journey.

New Report: The Best and Worst Countries for Digital Life Abroad

New Report: The Best and Worst Countries for Digital Life Abroad
Dear Mr. Naresh Kumar Sagar,

Over the last years, it has become impossible to imagine a world without digital communication, especially for globally mobile people: staying in touch with loved ones at home, mastering the administrative challenges in a new country, or working remotely as a digital nomad — the digital needs of expats are extremely diverse.

Based on the latest Expat Insider survey, one of the most extensive studies about living and working abroad, InterNations publishes its first Digital Life Abroad Report: Estonia is the best country for digital life abroad, followed by Finland, Norway, Denmark, New Zealand, Israel, Canada, Singapore, the Netherlands, and the USA. At the other end of the scale, expats in Myanmar (68th out of 68 countries), China, Egypt, India, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Peru, Turkey, and Uganda are the least satisfied with their digital life.

The press release, corresponding infographic, and full report can be downloaded at the end of this email. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, require statements from survey participants, or if you are interested in an interview with a spokesperson of the company.

Kind regards,
The interNations Press Team
The Best & Worst Countries for Digital Life Abroad
• Estonia, Finland, Norway, Denmark, New Zealand, Israel, Canada, Singapore, the Netherlands, and the USA are the best countries for digital life abroad.
• Estonia is voted the best country for two out of the five factors that determine digital life abroad: the unrestricted access to online services and the availability of administrative/government services online.
•
Myanmar, China, Egypt, India, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Peru, Turkey, and Uganda are the countries where expats are the least satisfied with their digital life.
Munich, 22 May 2019 — Over the last years, it has become impossible to imagine a world without digital communication, especially for globally mobile people: staying in touch with loved ones at home, mastering the administrative challenges in a new country, or working remotely as a digital nomad — the digital needs of expats are extremely diverse.

In its first Digital Life Abroad Report, InterNations, the world’s largest expat community, identifies the best and worst countries to live a connected life. The results, which are based on the annual Expat Insider survey, reveal that Estonia, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and New Zealand excel at offering a digital environment. Expats in these countries are very satisfied with their unrestricted access to online services and the possibility to pay without cash almost anywhere. At the other end of the scale, Myanmar, China, Egypt, India, and the Philippines are rated the worst countries for digital life. Expats in these countries struggle with a lack of government services online, difficult access to high-speed internet at home, or even restrictions in their use of online services.

At the other end of the scale, Myanmar, China, Egypt, India, and the Philippines are rated the worst countries for digital life. Expats in these countries struggle with a lack of government services online, difficult access to high-speed internet at home, or even restrictions in their use of online services. Interestingly, the worst-rated destination in the world, Myanmar, also holds a surprise: it ranks first for the ease of getting a local phone number.

Top 10 Countries for Digital Life Abroad

1. Estonia
Being featured in the Expat Insider survey for the first time, Estonia comes in 1st place out of 68 countries in terms of digital life. The country is rated best in the world for both unrestricted access to online services (e.g. social media) and the availability of administrative or government services online. In fact, 96% of expats judge the access to online services favorably (vs. 80% globally), with 86% saying it could not be any better (vs. 58% globally). Another 94% are impressed with the availability of administrative or government services online (vs. 55% globally), with 70% giving it the best possible rating (vs. 23% globally). These excellent results help the country compensate its low rankings in terms of available leisure options (51st) and travel opportunities (65th): all in all, Estonia comes in a good 21st place out of 68 countries for its general quality of life.

2. Finland
Paying without cash seems to be no issue at all in Finland, which comes first in the world for this factor. Nearly all expats in the country (96%) are satisfied with the ease of cashless payments (vs. 78% globally). They are also happy with the ease of getting high-speed internet at home (96% vs. 75% globally), the availability of administrative or government services online (88% vs. 55% globally), and the unrestricted access to online services such as social media (94% vs. 80% globally). Interestingly, it does not seem to be that easy to get a local mobile phone number in Finland (9% negative ratings vs. 7% globally), with the country ranking 44th out of 68 destinations for this factor.

3. Norway
Similarly to Finland, Norway ranks among the top 10 countries for most rating factors regarding digital life, but it drops drastically to 50th place for the ease of getting a local mobile number. In fact, just 84% of expats find this easy (vs. 86% globally), making Norway the worst-ranking among the top 10 countries for this factor. On the other end of the scale, nearly all expats (97%) are happy with the level of unrestricted access to online services in Norway, compared to 80% globally. The same is true for high speed internet access at home (95% positive ratings vs. 75% globally) and paying without cash. The latter is considered easy by 97% of expats, which is 19 percentage points more than the global average (78%).

4. Denmark
An excellent 4th place in terms of digital life helps Denmark to make up for its bottom 10 positions for leisure options (64th out of 68 countries) and personal happiness (66th): it comes in 24th place for quality of life overall. The Nordic country ranks 2nd worldwide for the ease of cashless payments (97% satisfied vs. 78% globally), only beaten by Finland. Additionally, nine in ten expats living in Denmark (90%) rate the availability of administrative or government online services positively (vs. 55% globally), while over half (57%) even claim that it is very good (vs. just 23% globally). Only getting a local mobile phone number does not seem to be all that easy in Denmark (46th out of 68 countries), with 6% stating to be unhappy with this factor (about the same as the global average of 7%).

5. New Zealand
New Zealand’s generally high ratings for the local quality of life (11th worldwide) are further consolidated by the Digital Life subcategory: Nearly all expats (98%) say that it is easy to get a local mobile number (vs. 86% globally), which is the highest share in the world. What is more, 99% of expats are happy with the ease of cashless payments (vs. 78% globally), with 77% even saying it could not be any better (vs. 48% globally). When it comes to the availability of government services online, another 91% agree that the access is good (vs. 55% globally). However, New Zealand just ranks a mediocre 35th out of 68 countries in terms of getting access to high-speed internet at home: about four in five (79%) agree that getting high speed internet access at home is easy, which is only slightly above the global average (75%).

6. Israel
Israel makes it into the top 10 countries in terms of quality of life for the first time, thanks to the new Digital Life subcategory, which has helped it to climb up the ranks. The country receives its best ratings for the unrestricted access to online services such as social media and the ease of getting a local mobile phone number (3rd worldwide for both). In fact, nearly all expats (95%) rate their access to online services positively (vs. 80% globally), and 84% say it could not be any better (vs. 58% globally). Similarly, 94% find it easy to get a mobile number (vs. 86% globally), and 80% think this could not be any easier (vs. 58% globally). Expats in Israel are not nearly as satisfied with the availability of administrative or government services online; however, the country still ranks a good 21st out of 68, with 67% positive ratings for this factor (vs. 55% globally).

7. Canada
With regard to digital life, Canada receives its best ratings for the availability of administrative or government services online (ranking 8th out of 68 destinations) and the ease of cashless payments (10th). More than nine in ten expats (94%) find the latter easy, compared to 78% globally. Moreover, expats in Canada are happy with the unrestricted access to online services such as social media (11th) and the ease of getting high-speed internet at home (12th). Close to nine in ten respondents (89%) are happy with the latter (vs. 75% globally), but the “very high costs of internet” are mentioned as a downside of life in Canada by a German expat. Only getting a local mobile phone number does not seem to be all that easy in Canada (38th); however, the share of expats who are satisfied with this factor is still slightly above the global average (89% vs. 86% globally).

8. Singapore
Singapore shows an interesting mix of excellent and rather average rankings in terms of digital life. The country ranks 21st out of 68 countries for cashless payments, 29th for the ease of getting a local mobile phone number, and 45th for unrestricted access to online services. Although the latter result places Singapore in the bottom half worldwide, 83% of expats still rate this factor positively, three percentage points above the global average (80%). On the other hand, Singapore receives great ratings for the ease of getting high-speed internet at home (8th) and the availability of administration or government services online. For the latter, Singapore even ranks 2nd worldwide, beaten only by Estonia. More than nine in ten expats (93%) are happy with this factor (vs. 94% in Estonia and 55% globally), and 60% say it could not be any better (vs. 23% globally).

9. Netherlands
Expats in the Netherlands can expect to be pleased with digital life if they are looking for unrestricted access to online services such as social media (8th out of 68) and a good availability of administrative or government services online (10th). “Everything can be done online”, an expat from Germany comments. In fact, 83% of respondents are happy with the availability of administrative or government services online, compared to 55% globally. The Netherlands receive its worst — though still above-average — ratings for the ease of getting a local mobile phone number (24th out of 68) and paying without cash (20th). While 90% of respondents do agree that it is easy to pay with something other than cash in the Netherlands (vs. 78% globally), this is the second-worst ranking among the top 10 countries for digital life, after Singapore (21st).

10. United States of America
Coming in a low 47th place out of 68 countries regarding the general quality of life, the USA receives its best ratings within this index for its digital life. Expats in the USA are most satisfied with the ease of cashless payments (8th), as nearly all respondents (95%) rate this favorably (vs. 78% globally). Close to three-quarters (74%) even agree that paying without cash could not be any easier in the USA (vs. 48% globally). Expats are also very satisfied with the ease of getting high-speed internet access at home (90% happy vs. 75% globally). However, this is not the case when it comes to getting a local mobile phone number (31st): This factor has the lowest ranking within the Digital Life subcategory. Nonetheless, 91% of expats still say that it is easy to get a local number (vs. 86% globally), with one expat from Sweden highlighting “how easy it is to get a local phone number anywhere” in the USA.

Bottom 10 Countries for Digital Life

68. Myanmar
Ranking last worldwide in terms of digital life, it seems like Myanmar is still a long way from becoming a digital society. The country is the world’s worst-rated destination to pay without cash and to get access to high-speed internet at home. In fact, 74% of expats find making cashless payments in Myanmar difficult, which is 61 percentage points more than the global average (13%) and double the share in Argentina (37%), the second-worst destination for this factor. Similarly, 58% of expats in Myanmar are unhappy with their access to high-speed internet at home, which is the highest share worldwide and close to four times the global average (16%). However, Myanmar also holds a surprise: The country ranks first worldwide for the ease of getting a local mobile phone number. Nearly all expats (96%) find this easy, compared to 86% globally, and 80% even say it is very easy (vs. 58% globally).

67. China
Coming in 57th place in the Quality of Life Index overall, China performs worst when it comes to digital life. The poor performance is one of the reasons for its further drop in the rankings: China is by far the worst country for unrestricted access to social media, with 83% being unsatisfied, which is over eight times the global average (10%) and 37 percentage points higher than the share in Saudi Arabia (46%), the destination with the second-worst ranking. Over half the expats in China (52%) even say that it could not be any worse (vs. 3% globally), and a US American respondent names the “government control of media and internet” as one of the worst things about life in China. While expats are also extremely unsatisfied with the access to high-speed internet at home (38% negative ratings vs. 16% globally), the ease of getting a local mobile phone number (14% vs. 7% globally), and the availability of administrative or government services online (52% vs. 26% globally), China ranks a good 17th out of 68 for cashless payments: 89% say paying without cash is no problem (vs. 78% globally), and 72% even think it could not be any easier in China (vs. 48% globally).

66. Egypt
Almost seven in ten expats in Egypt (69%) are unsatisfied with the availability of administrative or government services online (vs. 26% globally), which is the highest share worldwide (together with Myanmar). Digital life in Egypt is made even harder due to the slow internet speed, with close to half the expats (47%) finding it hard to get access to high-speed internet at home (vs. 16% globally). A US American expat lists the “internet at home” as one of the worst things about living in Egypt. What is more, expats are unhappy with the ease of paying without cash (35% negative ratings vs. 13% globally) and the access to online services such as social media (19% negative ratings vs. 10% globally). Only getting a local mobile phone number seems to be fairly easy in Egypt (39th out of 68 countries; 89% positive ratings vs. 86% globally).

65. India
When it comes to getting a local mobile phone number, India is the world’s most difficult country to live in. Almost two in five expats (37%) find this hard, which is more than five times the global average (7%) and 13 percentage points more than in Japan (24%), the country with the second-worst ranking. “Administration is terrible,” an expat from Sweden complains. “You have to fill in hundreds of forms for getting a local prepaid cellphone number.” Administrative procedures do not get any easier with a lack of government services online (64th out of 68). Almost three in five expats living in India (59%) say they are unsatisfied with the services on offer, which is more than double the global average (26%). Expats in India also struggle with a lack of high-speed internet at home: almost three in ten (28%) are unsatisfied with their internet speed, which is twelve percentage points above the worldwide average (16%)

64. Philippines
Expats not having access to high-speed internet at home is one of the biggest reasons for the Philippines’ ranking among the bottom 10 destinations for digital life. Close to half the expats (49%) state that they are unsatisfied with their internet speed (vs.16% globally), with only Myanmar (58%) ranking worse. “The internet speed is slow”, bemoans an expat from Indonesia. What is more, almost half the respondents (48%) are unhappy with the availability of government services online, which is 22 percentage points above the global average (26%). Expats also seem to struggle to pay without cash as over a third (34%) say it is difficult, compared to just 13% worldwide. Only getting a local mobile phone number does not seem to be an issue: Ranking the country 27th out of 68 in this respect, 90% say that this is easy (vs. 86% globally). More than seven in ten (72%) even say that it could not be any easier (vs. 58% globally).

63. Saudi Arabia
Having always ranked in the bottom 10 of the Quality of Life Index, the addition of the Digital Life subcategory is one of the reasons for Saudi Arabia dropping another eight places (59th out of 65 in 2017 vs. 67th out of 68 in 2018). The country comes in second-to-last place worldwide in terms of unrestricted access to online services such as social media, only ahead of China. In fact, close to half the expats in Saudi Arabia (46%) are unhappy with this factor, compared to 10% globally, or as an Indian expat states: “There is no freedom and too much restriction.” Close to one in five expats (16%) even say it could not be any worse, which is more than five times the global average (3%). Only administrative or government services seem to be easily available online (27th out of 68), with 55% of respondents stating that they are satisfied, exactly the same share as the global average. Lastly, expats in Saudi Arabia seem to struggle to get a local mobile phone number (21% negative ratings vs. 7% globally) as well as access to high-speed internet at home (25% negative ratings vs. 16% globally).

62. Indonesia
Indonesia is another country among the bottom 10 which appears to be lacking in online administrative or government services. Over three in five expats (61%) are unhappy with the services available, ranking the country 66th in the world for this factor (vs. 26% globally), only ahead of Myanmar and Egypt (69% negative ratings). Indonesia also comes in a low 61st place for both the access to high-speed internet at home (30% negative ratings vs. 16% globally) and the unrestricted access to online services such as social media (20% negative ratings vs. 10% globally). Lastly, the country appears to be a long way from becoming a cashless society, as one-fifth of expats (20%) say it is difficult to pay without cash, seven percentage points more than the global average (13%).

61. Peru
Expats in Peru seem to struggle with the lack of administrative or government services online: Close to half (49%) are unsatisfied with the services provided, which is 23 percentage points more than the global average (26%). A US American expat specifically mentions that “dealing with the government” can be difficult in Peru. Paying without cash (26% negative ratings vs. 13% globally) and getting access to high-speed internet at home (29% negative ratings vs. 16% globally) also appear to be tricky in the South American country. In fact, Peru ranks among the bottom 10 countries for all three factors mentioned so far. On the other hand, 86% of expats are satisfied with the unrestricted access to online services such as social media (vs. 80% globally). Among the bottom 10 countries, this is the best performance, but worldwide Peru still ranks just 46th out of 68 destinations.

60. Turkey
Turkey has lost 14 ranks in the Quality of Life Index within one year (from 39th out of 65 countries in 2017 to 53rd out of 68 in 2018). This is partly due to the addition of the Digital Life subcategory, where it ranks among the world’s worst countries. Expats seem to be particularly unsatisfied with their unrestricted access to online services such as social media: Close to half (45%) rate this negatively, which is over four times the global average (10%). A French expat even names “media control” as one of the things he dislikes most about life in Turkey. Receiving a local mobile phone number appears to be difficult, too, as one in five expats (20%) struggles to get one. This is almost three times the global average (7%). The country receives its best ratings for the ease of paying without cash, coming in an average 34th place out of 68 destinations.

59. Uganda
Ranking among the worst countries in the world for digital life, Uganda receives its lowest ratings for getting access to high-speed internet at home (65th out of 68 countries) and paying without cash (61st): close to two in five expats in the country (39%) are unsatisfied with the first factor (vs. 16% globally), while a third (33%) rate cashless payment opportunities negatively (vs. 13% globally). In fact, twelve percent even say it is very difficult to pay without cash in Uganda; only five other countries worldwide have higher percentages in this regard (Germany, Argentina, Egypt, Japan, and Myanmar). On the bright side, Uganda ranks among the top 10 countries regarding how easy it is to get a local mobile phone number (8th) — nearly all expats (97%) say that this is not an issue.

About the Digital Life Abroad Report
The Digital Life Abroad Report is an addition to the annually published Expat Insider survey by InterNations. The topical report is based on the Digital Life subcategory, which was added to the Expat Insider survey for the first time in 2018. The subcategory is part of the Quality of Life Index, which covers five other subcategories, including Leisure Options, Health & Well-Being, and Travel & Transportation.
To identify the best and worst countries for digital life, survey respondents were asked to rate their satisfaction with the following factors on a scale from one to seven: the unrestricted access to online services such as social media, the availability of government/administrative services online, the ease of getting a local mobile phone number, the ease of paying without cash, and the ease of getting access to high-speed internet at home.

For a country to be featured in the Expat Insider 2018 survey and subsequently in the Digital Life Abroad Report, a sample size of at least 75 survey participants per destination was necessary. In 2018, 68 met this requirement, with a total of 18,135 expatriates taking part in the survey, representing 178 nationalities and living in 187 countries or territories.

GAIL’s CSR initiative transforming lives of hundreds of students

Kanpur, May 22, 2019: In a resounding success of GAIL (India) Limited’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative ‘GAIL Utkarsh’, all 100 students from underprivileged sections of society enrolled at its Kanpur centre qualified the JEE Mains 2019 examination. Apart from them, 50 of the 60 students from its newly-established centres in Uttarakhand also cleared the prestigious entrance test, GAIL Director (Human Resources) Shri P K Gupta announced here today.

While the Kanpur chapter has been consistently successful in transforming the lives of talented students, this is the first time that it has achieved a success rate of 100 %, wherein all the 100 students including 14 girls, qualified the JEE Mains this year. Last year, 99 of the 100 students had passed the examination, Shri P K Gupta said at a felicitation ceremony in which also present were GAIL Executive Director (HR & CSR) Shri Prasoon Kumar, GAIL Chief General Manager (CSR) Shri Anoop Gupta and Center for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL) Director Shri S K Shahi.

The students, who are from the tenth batch of ‘GAIL Utkarsh’, were provided one year of free residential coaching under this CSR project which is conducted in partnership with CSRL. GAIL was the first among PSUs to start the coaching centre at Kanpur for talented but underprivileged students in 2009-10.

GAIL also started similar programmes recently in Dwarahat and Srinagar in Uttarakhand. This year, 26 out of 30 students from Srinagar and 24 out of 30 from Dwarahat qualified JEE Mains. In view of the success at these centres, the strength has been increased to 50 each in the current season, Shri P K Gupta said.

‘GAIL Utkarsh’, which started with just 23 students in 2009, has, so far, transformed the lives of 683 students, who have secured admissions in IITs/NITs and other reputed engineering colleges. The success rate of the project is 89%.

The students are selected on the basis of written test, interview and strict economic criteria, i.e., the annual income of parents should not exceed Rs 2.50 lakhs per annum. Most of them come from rural background. Students securing seats in Engineering Colleges, are provided scholarships, through GAIL Charitable & Educational Trust (GC&ET). Each selected student receives Rs. 48,000 to 60,000 per annum to meet their academics fees and other expenses.

The students of first five batches have joined various reputed companies and started their professional career with average salary of Rs. 6.00 lakhs per annum.

Promotion of organic farming in Ganga Basin was recurrent theme of the workshop. It was informed that Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare released an amount of Rs.1413 lakh for the year 2018-19 to the Government of Uttar Pradesh for organic farmaing under Namami Gange Clean Abhiyan for 700 clusters i.e. 14000 hectare area.
Participants advocated curbs on cultivation of non-essential water-guzzling crops such as sugarcane, particularly in water-constrained regions and creating adequate buffer regions of natural vegetation (trees, shrubs and grasslands) between farmlands and rivers, lakes, etc. for minimizing polluted runoff from agricultural fields directly into the nearby water bodies.
The concluding session sought to create a roadmap for sustainable agriculture in the Ganga basin by bringing in various solutions and experiences from the field.
The workshop succeeded in getting close to 20 national and international organizations involved in sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation and community building on a common platform. Sharing success stories and challenges in creating ecologically sustainable world keeping water and river Ganga at the center was an excellent learning experience for the participants.

Briefing media persons after the talks, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said that the issue was discussed between the two leaders and Prime Minister informed the Chinese President that India’s position is consistent on the issue to resolve all the issues through the bilateral mechanism.

UN concern on attack Abha International Airport

48765924_303
United Nations has expressed its concern over the terrorist attack carried out by the alleged Iran-backed Houthi militia on Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia.
In a press conference, UN spokesman Farhan Haq described the attack as a serious threat to regional security and undermining the political process in Yemen led by the United Nations.
The Official Spokesman for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al Malki, stated that a hostile projectile fired by the Houthi militia yesterday hit the arrivals hall at Abha International Airport through which thousands of passengers of different nationalities pass daily.
The Saudi Press Agency, SPA, quoted Colonel Al Maliki as saying that a total of 26 passengers of different nationalities were injured by the projectile, including three women and two Saudi children.
Eight people with moderate injuries were transferred to a hospital for treatment, while 18 were treated at the site for minor injuries. There was also some physical damage to the airport lounge.

Farewell from Annabel

As you know, this is sadly my last week at Renew. I have been delighted to lead this party, but without supporters like you, it would have all been for nothing.

Renew’s path has been to restore hope in our future, inspiring people to be the best version of themselves whilst also bringing out the best in our communities and our country, our Union. And it is critical that principled politicians lead that process or other less principled ones will.

You must not forget that we are the ones who stood up. We made the case when Brexit seemed inevitable, when others stood silent. We played our part. Remember that. Be proud of that.
As I have said before, we are not living through an era of change. We’re living through a change of era. As we transition to this new era, people are questioning the nation's institutions, principles and values.
Real change only comes when courageous individuals come together and demand it.

And you - the changemakers – are leading that charge. Thank you.
Annabel Mullin

Two years after Grenfell

‘Our love and thoughts are with all those who lost their lives and their families on the second anniversary of the Grenfell tragedy.’

Chuka Umunna joins Liberal Democrats

Chuka and the others realised too late, that having an organisation and infrastructure fundamentally matters.
Hopefully the Liberal Democrats provide him a more supportive home. We know how unforgiving the electoral system can be and renewal of all the institutional parties is imperative if we want to move to a better democracy.
‘We hear rumours that at least Heidi Allen and Sarah Wollaston are to shortly follow his lead.’

Last call for Renew's Summer Conference

Tomorrow is Renew’s Summer Conference, exclusively for members and guests. It is being held in The Priory Rooms on 40 Bull Street, Birmingham.

You do not want to miss out on this crucial meetup for the future of our party. If you’re a member, you’ll be able to trial our online voting platform, discuss the direction of Renew going forward and get involved in Q & A sessions with Renew candidates.

This is your last chance to purchase a ticket - get yours today.

Now, here’s what we’ve been writing about this week…

First Past the Post and The State of British Politics: Renew's James Bryan laments the UK's non-proportional and undemocratic voting system.
Extreme Weather is Changing Attitudes to Climate Change: Renew's Gwen Jones explains how extreme weather events are raising awareness of the climate change threat.

Why Aren't We More Worried by the Rise of Surveillance Capitalists?: How can we combat those who rig the market with godlike knowledge of their consumers? We have the lowdown.

Poll: Conservative Party Leader

In this week’s poll, we ask you:
Should Boris Johnson be Conservative Party Leader?
Let us know what you think on Facebook and Twitter!

Send in your stories: extreme weather

Renew wants to hear about the political issues that have affected you personally for the news section of our website. This is your chance to be heard, so if you have something to say, we want to give you the platform to say it.

This week, we’d like stories about your experience of tough weather. It's been an incredibly wet June in the UK with widespread flood warnings. Have you been affected by extreme weather events? How did you cope? What could the government do to mitigate the damage?

We want real messages from real people so that visitors to our website can really understand Renew’s message. Send a few hundred words to Renew's Communications Officer James Dilley and we’ll feature your stories in our blog posts.

Demonstrators scuffle, Hong Kong police

Scuffles broke out between demonstrators and police in Hong Kong today as hundreds of people persevered with a protest against an extradition law with mainland China, a day after police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to break up big crowds.
The extradition bill will cover Hong Kong residents and foreign and Chinese nationals living or travelling through the city.
The Bill has sparked concern that it may threaten the rule of law that underpins Hong Kong’s international financial status.
Protests around the city’s legislature yesterday forced the postponement of debate on the extradition bill.
Hong Kong’s China-backed Chief Executive Carrie Lam condemned the violence and urged a swift restoration of order but has vowed to press ahead with the legislation despite the reservations about it, including within the business community.

India’s ailing labour market threatens the fragile optimism that underpins the nation’s aspirations. Urgent action in required to create a more job-rich economy that harnesses the productive potential of India's population and raises living standards for all.

To further this critical policy imperative, the JustJobs Network, with support from the Azim Premji University, has developed a JustJobs Index (JJI) – a comprehensive, data-driven tool to measure the quantity and quality of jobs – at the state level in India. This index, the first of its kind to measure both the quantity and quality of jobs, broadens the discourse on employment beyond the incomplete metric of unemployment. The report analyzes the factors driving state-level rankings.

NatureFresh™ Acti Heart focuses on complete heart care through a new ad campaign

#PooraKhayaal encourages consumers to think beyond cholesterol before making a purchase decision
Highlights the 5 warriors which makes it the ideal oil for complete heart care
New Delhi, June 20, 2019: NatureFresh™ Acti Heart, the new extension of Cargill’s oils business in India’s home-grown brand, NatureFresh™, has unveiled its first campaign“#PooraKhayaal”, today. Positioned as an oil that gives complete heart care, NatureFresh™ Acti Heart aims at building awareness and educating people on the many heart ailments that exist today. The narrative of the campaign hinges on the premise that there are more than one causes for heart ailments, and they are not restricted to any particular age, gender, or fitness level. The campaign persuades consumers to question their current cooking oil choice - move beyond ‘adha adhura’ or incomplete information and ensure they have ‘poora’ or complete information while making an educated decision on their oil purchase.
This thought-provoking campaign features three films portraying varied scenarios featuring a friend, a mother, and a wife. The three montages convey that there are diverse reasons for heart problems such as inflammation, unhealthy lifestyle, high cholesterol, etc., all of which impacts the heart’s health, either directly or indirectly. Consumers’ current cooking oil does not tackle all these aspects and hence the need for taking complete care or #PooraKhayaal of their heart. NatureFresh™ Acti Heart, powered by the 5 warriors – is rich in Omega 3, has high MUFA, an ideal omega 6: omega 3 ratio along with the presence of Vitamin A, D, E and anti-oxidants like Oryzanol, is hence, the ideal choice for heart health. NatureFresh™ Acti Heart has also been accredited by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for having the ideal Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio, reiterating it being healthy oil for consumers. Its high smoking point makes it ideal for all types of Indian cooking – sautéing as well as frying.  Hence, NatureFresh™ Acti Heart empowers consumers by promising ‘adha adhura nahi, poora khayaal’ of their heart.
In addition to the TV Commercial, the campaign also extends to the print and digital medium. Built around the concept of being cautious of ‘adhura’ or incomplete information, the brand has launched a digital anthem titled “The Adhura Gyan’ anthem which, like the TVC, encourages consumers to question their current life choices and persuades them to have complete information about all their life choices including their cooking oil. This digital anthem will be highlighted across Facebook, Google, YouTube and other popular digital platforms.
Speaking on the launch of the new campaign, Subin Sivan, Marketing Head, Cargill’s oils business in India said, ““Cardiovascular problems are increasingly becoming a significant area of concern among urban households today. In India specifically, the problem is salient among a younger population. Unfortunately, a lot of the information and awareness around heart problems are limited to cholesterol reduction. NatureFresh Acti Heart’s campaign #PooraKhayaal aims to shift the narrative from cholesterol reduction to complete heart care. Our goal to is enable consumers to question their current choice of cooking oils that only addresses cholesterol.”
Commenting on the campaign, Janmenjoy Mohanty, Regional Creative Officer, Lowe Lintas said, “At Lowe Lintas, we nurture brands to become strong partners to consumers. NatureFresh Acti-Heart is one such brand. Heart health is a big concern today, even among the youth, due to the chaotic, always-on lives we lead. The current perception among consumers is that if cholesterol is in control, they and their family will be free from heart ailments. Through #PooraKhayaal, the intent is to bust this myth through impactful stories and encourage consumers to question their choice of cooking oil.”

Seminar on “Environmental Consciousness”

Despite increasing knowledge, awareness and technological advancement, it is a fact that our ancestors were more far more environment-conscious than us. Their common needs did not go beyond fuel collection, flower plucking, fruit gathering and the like. They neither indulged in destruction of forests nor did they resort to hunting and poaching in an unscrupulous manner. Unlike the plunder of today, where the governing passion is to explore and exploit the known and unknown sources of wealth, the attitude of our forefathers towards life and its mission was ‘live and let others live’. In ancient times nature held our respect, perhaps due to religious or supernatural associations. Now that we have a scientific grasp of nature, we have lost sight of its wider aesthetic, spiritual and complementary value. With the onslaught of industrialization, nature has been through a rapid exploitation leading to pollution and depletion of its resources.

Media Invite

After the results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were announced, political parties as well as several political commentators
are trying to understand the social and political reasons leading to the 2019 verdict. These analyses have largely focused
on political and organisational limitations of the opposition compared to the RSS-BJP. While we recognise the urgent
need to address these political and organisational challenges, it is equally important to recognise the threat to Indian democracy
being posed by the use of EVMs. It is, indeed, the X factor, the one concern in Indian politics which we can ill afford to ignore
in our fight to defend the idea of India.

During the 2019 Election, several startling facts regarding EVM have come into public domain, which are extremely worrying.
Number of organisations and citizens are writing an open letter to political parties to
Reject EVM to Safeguard Electoral Process and Save Indian Democracy.

The letter will be released to the media on June 20th at 2 pm at the Press Club of India.

Nandita Narain, Professor, Delhi University, Kawalpreet Kaur, AISA Delhi president,
N Sai Balajee, JNUSU president, Priyadarshi Chowdhury, National Coordinator AISO and
Dr Sunilam, NAPM will address the press conference.

Kindly depute a reporter, photographer to cover the press conference.

Imran to Meet Russia China President

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet here formally today (Friday). The two leaders are in Bishkek attending the 19th Meeting of the Council of the Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Yesterday, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Russian President Vladimir Putin held an informal discussionduring a dinner Kyrgyzstan president in honour of heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
During the dinner hosted by Kyrgyzstan President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, the Pakistan premier and President Putin shook hands and inquired about the well-being of each other, according to sources.
In an interview to Russian news agency Sputnik, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that his government has been mulling purchase of arms from Moscow, given the fact that the Cold War was long over.
Asked about military cooperation between Pakistan and Russia and joint drills later this year, he said they had developed cooperation with Russia, between their defence forces, and hoped to deepen their contacts.
"Most of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s were spent in the Cold War region, where India was close to the Soviet Union, and Pakistan was close to the United States. We were in different camps. Now things have changed," the Pakistan premier said.
"India is also friendly with the United States, and Pakistan is also friendly with the US. So we no longer have the Cold War situation. It is refreshing that we have developed our contacts with Russia, and they are developing all the time."
Responding to a question about the import of Russian weapons, he said, "As I’ve said, once the Cold War was over. Previously Pakistan was tied to the US, and, as we all know, India was tied to the Soviet Union. And no longer is that situation there. First, we hope that our tension with India decreases, so we do not have to buy arms because we want to spend money on human development".
"But, yes, we are looking for arms from Russia, and I know our military is already in touch with the Russian military," Khan commented.
Regarding the prospects of Pak-Russia cooperation within the SCO, he said they look forward to have exchanges, develop more contacts and improve their trade.
"Russia is an energy-surplus country. Pakistan has shortages in energy, so we hope to talk on those areas. We already are. Apart from defence, we want to also improve our trade in other areas with Russia," the prime minister said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Council of Heads of State of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Bishkek on Friday.
PM Imran and Chinese President Xi held wide-ranging discussions on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues.
On Twitter, Foreign Office spokesman Dr Fisal said both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening Pakistan China All Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership. Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated his government's resolve to ensure early completion of CPEC projects.
President Xi expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s measures against terrorism and acknowledged efforts for regional peace and stability.
Both sides decided to enhance the depth and breadth of cooperation at all levels to build Pakistan China Community of Shared Destiny in the New Era.
On Thursday, the prime minister met Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Sharipovich Jeenbekov and agreed to strengthen land and air connectivity between the two countries.
The two leaders also reviewed bilateral relations and agreed to comprehensively upgrade mutual cooperation in diverse fields.
PM Imran and President Jeenbekov also agreed to enhance people-to-people contacts and boost tourism cooperation through friendly visa regimes. They also agreed to the Joint Ministerial Commission and Bilateral Political Consultations soon.
Earlier upon arrival in Bishkek for the Council of the Heads of State meeting, PM Imran was received by Kyrgyzstan PM Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev and Health Minister Health Kosmosbek Sarievich Cholponbaev.
Later in the day, the prime minister met Russian President Vladimir Putin during a dinner hosted by Kyrgyzstan president in honour of heads of SCO.
During the dinner, the Pakistan premier and President Putin shook hands and inquired well-being of each other.
The leaders of SCO member and observer states, as well as representatives of important international organisations, are attending the meeting.
Since becoming a member of SCO in 2017, Pakistan has been actively participating at all levels in various SCO mechanisms including foreign affairs, defence, national security, economy and trade, science and technology and innovation, youth and women empowerment, tourism and media.
Besides Pakistan, SCO’s membership comprises China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. SCO observers include Afghanistan, Iran, Belarus and Mongolia.
